That's debatable. It makes a few more horsepower but is significantly more costly and less reliable. It also sounds like absolute dogshit. Easily one of the worst sounding engines ever made. It's that bad. And it has less potential.

This new N/A 7.0 is the perfect engine for the Raptor.
No, it isn't debatable. The results speak for themselves. Admit it, if the GenII had a direct-injected V8 with the horsepower and torque figures of the HO EB V6, you'd have already rubbed yourself raw thinking about it. You're so hung up on, of all things, the ******* sound of the GenII motor, and THAT'S your hangup. The only one. It has nothing to do with direct injection, or turbos ('cause a direct-injected TT V8 would be badass, right??), it's all about the sound. Full stop. And while I certainly believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion, I really think it's stupid to ignore the rest of the badassery going on with the GenII because of the ******* noise it makes.

In regard to the DOHC 427 going into the Raptor, if/when it happens, we'll see how it performs. We'll see if it makes the same or better horsepower/torque at RPM levels that are appropriate for truck use while still passing emissions standards (which, like it or not, are an absolute requirement if the truck is ever going to be produced). At that point, you'll have more weight in the front end, and it'll be moved in the wrong direction (forward) relative to the location of the HO EB V6. I'm sure that THAT will make it more pleasant to use in its intended application (desert running).

As for the potential, again, don't be ridiculous... I wouldn't assume that just because there's more displacement, there's more potential... a long block designed/built for boost can often take a LOT more cylinder pressure (and therefore make more power) than one that was designed/built to be NA.

Look, I agree that there's no replacement for displacement... BUT... ALL other parameters must be equal. In this case, they aren't... and therefore, I wouldn't bet against the smaller, more robustly built long block.

if anything the v8 will have similar performance, IMO the ecoboost is a better starting platform that would be cheaper/easier to get more power out of for the simple fact it already has turbos from the factory. yea a v8 has more potential in the end but thats after dropping 10-15k on some form of forced induction.

not sure why people get hung up on sound, who the hell bases a purchase on sound.

It clearly is debatable. We are currently debating it.

I think a large displacement naturally aspirated V8 is the perfect engine for an off-road truck. Many of us were hoping Roush would build one out of the Boss (there was an 850 horsepower 460 prototype), but it never came to fruition. This new DOHC 7.0 is like a dream come true.

Would I have settled for a smaller displacement TTV8? Maybe, but that doesn't mean I think it's the ideal engine for an off-road truck. And I certainly wouldn't make those trade-offs for a weezy little motor with a measly 39 more horsepower, which, so far, is getting just 40 more horsepower with the 2JZ toonz.

You say that the N/A 7.0 would weigh more, but how much? Those turbos, manifolds, intercooler, and related plumbing all weigh something, right?

And why bother to argue that we don't know which engine has more potential and then say you agree there's no replacement for displacement?

PS - what's up with the ************ reference? Seriously. You Jennies are...

@Truckzor you're still here...posting in the Gen II section :lol2:

Right up until today, I have always maintained that you would never find me on the Jen 2 forum. I honestly don't even know where it is. But I think I'll make my way over there now so I can make sure to keep up on all the latest news as Ford gets ready to roll out the 7.0.
