This has been a very entertaining thread! So much so I feel I must join in on this and bring this thread back from the dead. First off being a Gen 1 13 terrain screw owner I tip my hat to you Gen 2 owners. The truck is better in every way except sound of course. Being a road course and drag strip guy first I can see where Ford was going with this. Weight. Weight is every vehicles enemy. I'm constantly looking for ways to cut weight to my e46 M3 and always looking to get more power and cut front end weight from my 67 GTO with a 509 merlin big block. My first experience test driving what would become my first Ford vehicle (after 09 couldn't swallow the bailout GM got plus GM doesn't have anything close to the baddest truck on the planet) I immediately felt the serious weight this truck had particularly the heavy understeer from all the weight up front. Fast forward to the Gen 2. You Gen 2 guys are right its better in every way. However if I list my vehicles in 2 columns Id list my Raptor in the GTO column not in the inline 6 M3 column. I personally even though I know its lighter faster more power better suspension I cant see myself getting one to put it theoretically in the M3 column. Its personal preference really on how we feel for some of us Gen 1 owners. Now lets get to the heart of this post. The Gen 2 Raptor is King of the Hill. The Gen 1 Raptor is a relatively distant second to the King. The closest 3rd King of the hill are light years away being the Ram Rebel and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. I talked to a guy who deals with the ford performance guys who said the 6tt is here to stay. I then mentioned the Ram Rebel TRX. He didn't say anything. Mopar loves taking everything and giving it a hellcat motor. Now given both vehicles dynamics its very possible that a gen 2 can hang with a 575hp hellcat rebel truck because of the rebels lack of experience in the prerunner field. While never being a mopar person and never will the exhaust note on the TRX is intoxicating. Plus on paper it looks to be the superior machine. Even if its made in limited models and costs a fortune. They claim to have a raptor killer.....on paper at least. You know Mopar desperately wants to topple the King along with everyone else I'm sure. So while weve been arguing why the 7.0 wont happen because the King doesnt need to go back to that ancient engine layout.....Mopar definately is going with an ancient engine layout and supercharged to boot and we all know it. That TRX is coming. Ive only seen a few Hellcat Challengers and Chargers but when I do I know its coming. I can still late brake him though
. My question to you guys is can the current motor in your Gen2 at 600hp (max possibly) from hennessey, match or exceed the proposed Hemi Hellcat of 575hp (but lets face it at some point that will turn into 707hp) in a special edition Raptor? Or does it need a 7.0 NA special edition cranking out 800hp to stay at the top of the Hill as the King? Will Ford accept defeat or the possibility of defeat by the TRX? The possibility is why I wonder if a second killer motor is on the way.
