@K9 EXPERT I went to bed thinking about this last night. If I was trying to Cool the topper bed of my truck. I would close cell foam the roof and sides of the toper use a stand up AC (room AC) run the vent duct out the slider of the cap (front if it has one) or wall of the cap or window of the cap. last choice would be front if the bed wall or floor of the bed. To power it I don't think the inverter plug in the truck would do it. You would need a generator. I would use a Honda 2200 inverter they will run this type if AC for about 14 hours before needing fuel. I know this for sure I do this every year when I take the Wife camping. YES I have AC in my Tent. It is the only way she will go now. Been doing it for over 10 years now. as far a keeping an "eye" on the temp I think there were some good suggestions already?
PS. If it is 95 outside the AC I use will keep the Tent around 72.
I am not a fan of Gunner Kennels, they truly do not have enough ventilation. Also, the recent HPD incident brought me back to reality, when least expected, anything mechanical can fail and a dog can cook in 20 minutes. My five year old Mali goes everywhere with me, restaurants, grocery stores…everywhere, but now I have a 4 month old, for which I am concerned. Regardless, here is a story that will make most dog lovers puke. My friend and his retired K9 partner stopped at Safeway to buy himself sandwich. The dog was placed inside its crate in the bed of the truck, which was equipped with a Snugtop. When my friend returned to the truck, dog and crate was gone. The dirtbag broke the side window and unlocked the F150 bed gate. About eight hours later, the dog was found poisoned inside a dumpster about a block away. It took 3 days before a video of the incident was discovered. A homeless good for nothing FH, killed the dog and took the crate. My crates are locked inside both Raptors. I know locks can be sawed off, but hopefully the lock will send a puke elsewhere. In addition, the Smart Cap will need to be raised about four inches for the crate to slide out. Just like carrying a gun, it’s better to have it and not need it, than to not have it!Our department issued us Gunner kennels for our k9s so on top of the included fan for the kennel I mounted an electric radiator fan on each window of the truck cap. Seems to work good it keeps it around 75 while driving I just open it all up when I park at work, until I transfer my dog to the patrol car. Wish I could find an air conditioner as well for longer durations.
I can have the mentality, but I don’t know the difference between a hammer and wrench. Many on this forum write about stuff way out of my league. The two worst words in the English language is assembly required……..and a very close second is, community property. You sound like you need a prepper mentality. 1 is none, two is one.
Two small DC 12 volt powered RV conditioner with separate batteries. Vary the set points so one is primary and if the primary fails, the second unit kicks on and if the primary can’t keep up the second comes on and off automatically. You don’t need big units if you insulate.
