Honestly man get the HIDX's. If you set them all up and think you need to replace two with spots, just send them right back and I'll refund you. No problem at all.

For $400 you can't beat it

Damn. Well alright!

Having experience with both LED's and HID's sounds like your better off with a good halogen light or affordable HID. I wouldn't over look the halogens, and most can be converted to HID when you have the $$ for an HID kit (look how popular Hella 500 HID conversions are). The Halogen Light Force Striker 170's is another one I'd look at.

There was a comparsion of driving lights which covered Halogen, HID and LED in 4wd magazine. What I took from it is if you are going after distance then HID are the way to go. The LED lights are really for limited distance illumination.

Some examples of their results for are (spot only):
*Halogen*
IPF 900 19 lux @ 100m
IPF 900 5 lux @ 200m
IPF 900 2 lux @ 300m
IPF 900 1 lux @ 400m

Lightforce 240 XGT 40 lux @ 100m
Lightforce 240 XGT 6 lux @ 200m
Lightforce 240 XGT 4 lux @ 300m
Lightforce 240 XGT 1 lux @ 400m

*HID*
IPF 900 HID 53 lux @ 100m
IPF 900 HID 16 lux @ 200m
IPF 900 HID 7 lux @ 300m
IPF 900 HID 5 lux @ 400m
...
IPF 900 HID 1 lux @ 700m

Lightforce 240 XGT HID 193 lux @ 100m
Lightforce 240 XGT HID 53 lux @ 200m
Lightforce 240 XGT HID 21 lux @ 300m
Lightforce 240 XGT HID 10 lux @ 400m
...
Lightforce 240 XGT HID 1 lux @ 900m

*LED*
Baja Design Stealth 20" LED 5 lux @ 100m
Baja Design Stealth 20" LED 1 lux @ 200m

Rigid Industries E series 20" LED 4 lux @ 100m
Rigid Industries E series 20" LED 1 lux @ 200m

The majority of the LED bars reviewed where spread only and illuminated to a max distance of around 15-20 meters. There were only 2 (I think) spot LED bars and they fadded away around 200m. Compare that the HID that will give 700-900 meters and it is pretty obvious really.

Hmm... Looks familiar.

Hey 6.2, found you a light bar! Comes in 3 or 4 tab and is very affordable..

light bar.jpg

The site is here: HOME - Affordable Light Bars.com Hope that is an attractive bar for ya. It looked low profile enough. I also like those behind the grill lights :peace:

By the way I found a comparison between the hidx and the custom accessories 4" lights:

The middle picture is the red ring Custom Accessories and the right is the Hidx euro. The custom accessories has a little more lighting which will really count. Hope this helps....:Jedi:

thanks man. i was looking at that light bar, looks like it would block my plate/tow hooks to much.

im thinking of just getting one fabbed up similiar to this. looks much better IMO with them up by the grill. also be more protected in winter when im smashing into snow drifts

but im definately getting 4 4" HIDX lights. for the price, theyre a steal.

the problem isnt really with the lights. its with the refective housing that the lights are in. you would need a housing that concentrates the beam into a narrower path.
