Rear Ring and Pinion Issue

Hi all.
A few days back I picked up a 2nd hand Gen2 2017 with 44k kms on it. Extensively test drove it and it was perfect throughout.
First day of owning it and I started to hear a whining noise from the rear end. Dealer has diagnosed a shot ring and pinion at the back. Previous owner swears it hasn't towed anything and I heard nothing last week during test drives. It's under warranty so will get fixed.
Wanted to know if anyone else had encountered this problem? Very strange on a low mileage truck!

Well your not alone. My 2018 had started getting a whine going down the road and got it in at the dealership and my ring and pinion are apparently shot. I’ve got 48,000 miles and still covered under warranty. So I’ve been asking the same question what would cause this. I do tow once a month or so but nothing excessive.
