Rear Fox 3.0 Protection?

My Fox 3.0 rears came with shock boots to protect the shaft. Something like these ...

What are your thoughts so far ruffstuff? Do you think they are up to the task? Or do you think we need something more rigid?

Probably won't hurt to put both, they also have a neoprene boot that velcros around the front coil to protect the shock from mud, slush and salt.

Just curious if you have looked at other brands or are you set on the Fox because you are keeping the fronts stock?

Already have the Front Fox 3.0's on order/paid for...shipping this week from RPG. Love these guys! Already have the Rear stage 3 and tie rods coming as well.

You know how you just get a gut feeling of what you think fits your best requirements? That's how I feel about the Fox Racing Shocks. Another fellow in our group just loves the Icon's......why? Maybe because of the adjustability.... Me, I like the fact that I don't need to set up and adjust my front shocks. Just pin it and go! LOL ( however, the Fox rears can be adjusted if required. )

Soon, I'll have the RPG Stage 4+ suspension....can't wait!

I just threw a rock the size of a basketball into my passenger rear shock. It bent the compression tubes and shaft and the seals/internals were smoked from driving with no fluid. The only part that I didn't replace was the top cap. That being said, that was the first shock I have seen that was damaged like that. The rubber boot does a wonderful job for all the small stuff. Even if I would have had a thick plastic guard over the shaft, the rock still would have taken out the bypass tubes and let all the fluid out. Might have even taken the guard out and still bent the shaft.

I've run shock boots on my Toyotas for years and never had a shaft related damage. But then again my Toyotas don't go no where as fast. Also the shocks I've run didn't have bypass tubes that can be taken out by a large rock like bstoner had.

I ordered a set of the midflaps to help protect the icons waiting to be installed. I should have them in a week and a half ill make sure to take some pictures and let you guys know how they work. I run in the same stuff as you guys dirt roads with rocks and what not there aint no desert here on the east coast lol

Mid flaps are on my list. My shock guards were really beat up when I went to Death Valley. 600+ miles off road really takes its toll.
