Thanks for the info, I called a local Alpine dealer and got a price of $1500 installed or $1250 for the parts. He also said that the Sync will not work. I found another adapter from Alpine that will allow Sync to work if the unit has an Aux in. So almost went out and bought it all but store was closing in 30 minutes so tomorrow I will be there. Thanks for all the info. Will let you know how the install goes and final thoughts of the overall system.

Ok went to the Stereo shop to make a purchase time was a issue because of the shift I am working and to start the store wasn't where the it was suppose to be, the sign was there, but they had moved. Had 15 minutes before they closed and ended up phoning to get directions and while I was at it asked them again about the Alpine unit and he said we don't have one but can order it.. REALLY! yesterday another guy said ya we have everything in stock.
Anyways started searching the Internet calling around looks like there are none in Canada. Called Crutchfield and they don't sell to Canada, found Crutchfield Canada and they don't offer the unit.. So tomorrow will do some more calling around to see if I can get it local otherwise have to be ordered not something I want to wait for as it looks like a good weekend to install something..

sorry, im in ca, dont know anyone out there.

pioneer will be cheaper, and in my opinion has a much easier to use nav

unless you are talking about th z140bh. retail is $1500. same as alpine. but you will need the alpine fit kit, which is expensive as hell. nav bypass is more too because you need another part.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but how would you rate the overall quality and fit of the "alpine fit kit?"

hijacker!!!!......... the alpine kit is definately the best kit to go with. i have not done a ford f150 yet, but i did use the alpine in a 12 camero and some other car. however, the only reason you need that specific kit in the truck is for alpines 8in screen. if you decide to go with another brand then that kit is useless. metra, scosche, and ai all sell kits for less than $20. you can always get the alpine kit and modify it to fit a smaller screen, but the work to get it done right is quite a bit.

I was introduced to the Kenwood DNX9990HD as an option. The dealer suggested the Maesto iDatalink to so I can keep all the existing features like, iPod control, Bluetooth, Satellite radio and this will communicate with all Kenwood DNX models. They also will match the dash plate.

Price $1900 installed worst case Price?

My questions are:

1) Is this a good option for the Price?

2) Is the Alpine 8" an alternative?

3) What about Pioneer?

IMHO..

it comes down to either Pioneer or the New Alpine 8".

Also, as usual, just re read the previous post...hehe

Abyways...I know for the Pioneer NAVs (pretty positive its the same for the Alpine NAV)

the below will allow access to the OEM features you described essentially it retains SYNC and steering wheel controls..

NOTES:
Pioneer NAV - You will need the dash bezel for an XL truck, get the scosche not the metra, the metra has an ugly black trim that goes around the radio.

1. PAC MS-FRD1 http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=26 for the SYNC retention. $250

and

2. PAC SWI-PS for Pioneer/Sony radios. You would need PAC SWI-RC for your Kenwood http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=29 for Steering Wheel Control Interface. $85

also

3. I would also install a PAC TR7 http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=31 that is a Universal Trigger Module. It (when configured correctly) delays the switched power every time (user duration programmed) you turn the ignition key. Helpful with Nav units not cycling off everytime you turn the key..... $35

being an installer for 12+ years i have seen just about every type of nav on the market. my personal preferance has always been the pioneer. but check with other installers and see what they have. the best way to find out what is good is to check their cars. i wont put "crap" in my car. dont always listen to the salesperson, they sometimes get commission and will sell you what they want in order to get a higher commission. same goes with manufacturer spiffs. i used to work at a shop that wasnt very honest, and sony had a special for employees of a sony authorized shop. everything that was sold or installed during a certain time period was rewarded by sony with gift cards. so all the sales people told all the customers that sony was the best.......... sony is crap, we dont carry it for that reason....... needless to say many vehicles came back and all the sony came out and pioneer or alpine went in as replacement......... just be careful who you trust as a car audio shop

with pioneer navs you dont need the tr7. you can use a relay instead
