Nothing really special here... But I removed my stock exhaust tips along with the skid plate to coat with rattle can Rust-Oleum bed liner. I initially was going to just drop them off to get powdercoated satin black, but didn't feel like waiting a week to get them back on so I wanted to try an alternate route and see how it goes.

Was pretty easy to do, just remove the exhaust tips with a 15mm deep socket and remove the 6 bolts on the skid plate and dropped it.

Once removed I degreased it and then washed it with soap and water. After that I sanded both with 400 grit sand paper to rough it up, wet sanding. The exhaust tips on the truck had probably never been cleaned, to get crap off I HAD to use sand paper!

Once completely dry, it took about 1.5 cans of the Rust-Oleum bed liner to get them done. I have about 4 coats on both. The final coat I held the rattle can about 2ft away to make sure to get a good texture on them. Let them dry for a few hours so I could handle them and re-installed. I haven't put the oil filter access panel back on, I'll wait 24hrs to do that since both pieces mate up.

Not sure exactly how well the bed liner will hold up with the exhaust tip, but like I said if worse comes to worse I'll just get it powdercoated. Considering bed liner holds up to heat during the summer, I think it'll be okay though..

Sorry but all these pictures was taken with my S3, I'll get some DSLR pictures tomorrow when it's bright out. I also cleaned the rear fender wells thoroughly today too, will coat with them Dupli-Color undercoating to hide the white!

What do you think?? I'm glad no more silver or chrome on the Raptor now!

Believe or not I am finishing up last coat on gray mustache and skid plate...

I used a wire wheel brush to get rid of plastidip.. It came of easily in spots, but Brandi skid plate love taps (scratches) didn't peel off. So I ruffed up the surface and then wiped everything down.

So the paint does not peel/flake used some self etching aluminum primer...

Then started spraying light coats of duplicolor bumper and trim paint.. Building up a nice thick coat on both sides of side plate..

In between 20 minute flash costs on the skid plate, I worked on mustache...

Masking, sanding, prepping....

It started to get dark and rushed a little on vertical surface and got a couple droops in it..

After TRR, I am sure it will be well beaten in and no one will be able to tell..

Mustache plate! That's an awesome name! I wrapped mine in gloss white vinyl last weekend. It works and not perfect, but I dig the look. Considering painting it white maybe...

----Love how they look! Want my skid black and have been trying to decide the best way to go myself. Like heavy duty/durable and not having to **** around with touch-up work if it can be avoided. Am considering LineX'ing my skid. Local quote is around $100 which seems kind of steep. If I spend that, thinking about going with a TMX plate but last I heard they were suppose to be working on one with better coverage, so I've been waiting for the "new and improved" version. Have some extra Herculiner at home. Durable but it dries kind of glossy which not excited about. Not planning on getting to this for at least a month so please update with how durable the Rustoleum is. May go this route as price is right.
