Rat got into my engine this morning. It threw a P0204 code and idled pretty bad. Took it to the dealer and got this message today

"Good news, is it looks like they just chewed the connector. But my tech has to take the manifold off and the upper injectors. It is the lower injector that has the short. So it is a good amount of labor to get to it. It is about $1500 total"

Guess it could have been worse. Should have it back tomorrow.

I ordered a bunch of rat traps. Going to go biblical on them.
should have told them no thanks. do it yourself and save $200 an hour for who knows how many hours

I've got an old Toyota 4WD pickup that sits in a barn on the ranch and only gets driven every few months. To keep the mice from chewing up the wiring I use those Tomcat bait blocks and tie them up with wire on the fender liner. You have to secure them otherwise they get carried off then the wires become the next best meal. This has solved the issue of chewed wires AND kills the rodents. I know everyone screams about using poison to kill rodents but it works. My neighbor keeps his hood open when he's parked under his carport and that seems to work pretty good as well.

Happened to my 2020 also. I parked in an overgrown empty lot at a family gathering and, on the way home I had no AC. The truck was under warranty, so I took it to the dealer. After 2 days I got a call from the service manager that a rat had made a nest under the battery box and had a litter. While there, she chewed up some of the wiring going to the AC components. By the time they figured it out and repaired the cables it cost me $1000. I have a little barn cat now for around the house and am cautious where I park when away from home.

Yup, rodents chewed my wiring harness, tasty soy-product housing, and it cost me $1000. Had the exterminators by and they sealed up the house a little better but staying on top of the smaller critters is important too. I use the bucket-with-water method, drown half dozen at once.

Had exact problem.....but with mice...they also chewed the rubber hood seal and insulation around the battery...
Glad I went to my local shop and not the Stealership..only cost me $650..!
I now use these bait blocks..place under vehicle by wheels...and also keep one tied to top of battery...and of course throw some under benches and near doors...IF you dont have dogs or cats...this is a cheap way to kill them off and has worked for me...
I also spray "Rodent Sheriff " on all wires in engine compartment every 3-4 months....Its really just Peppermint Oil with a fancy name..and just recently found a cheaper version on Amazon:

Mighty Mint Gallon (128 oz) Rodent Repellent Spray for Vehicle Engines and Interiors - Cars, Trucks, RVs, & Boats

jt-eaton-bait-stations-709-ap-64_100.jpg
JT EATONBait Block Apple Flavor Anticoagulant Rodenticide for Mice and Rats (144-Pack)

I know these bait blocks work great,as I have found 5-6 dead ones on shop floor...and you will see when they are nibbled on,so can then also place trap in that area just as extra insurance....
I've had them totally ruin a BMW I left parked outside for a year...didnt think they would get into the Raptor parked inside...but one time was enough for me....went **** on keeping the little B@*!ards out especially since my '63 Corvette is parked next to it....lucky those dont have the new wiring the auto companies use now that attracts rodents.>!!
Good luck..!! just need to keep on them.>!!

It's a rat conspiracy! I park outside when in Kerrville because getting in the garage is a real bitch. Winter a year ago was very cold. Rats got in my engine bay and munched on the firewall padding and around the battery. Also dined on the engine cover, all in one night. Luckily only a bunch of cosmetic damage. But they did naw through the ground cable at the battery terminal-a quick fix on my part. But WTF?

I used to have a conscious and hated to poison them. Now I buy that poison shit by the bucket load.
