Solid maybe.
I’m driving my first 2012. Drove it for about 6 months before adding the Whipple SC. The truck was adequately powered before the SC, but is a completely different truck with it, all for the better. The only complaints are my tune requires 91 octane (it’s no where to be found) and ground clearance.

The Gen 3 with 5 link seems like a solid truck and obvious new levels of performance. If priced reasonably I’d rather buy a new R then pick up a used 2014 to blow. I haven’t driven one of the gen 2 v-6’s but can’t imaging going back to stock/ near stock horsepower and torque after driving the blown 6.2 for so many years.

I don’t fully understand all the mileage comments. I get a smidge better mileage with the blower then I did before I put it on, if I drive it with a soft foot. Additionally the handling comments, I don’t see how adding a couple hundred pounds, (equivalent to one passenger or a couple dogs), suddenly caused the truck to not perform as well. We’re driving nearly 7000 lb trucks and quibbling over a couple MPG’s in fuel milage? Strap 4 Jerry cans in the bed and get after it.

I’m only in my 50’s but have yet to be in a situation with any auto, boat, motorcycle, sled, etc where I thought, wow, I’ve way to much horsepower and torque.

if Ford can keep the price reasonable, I’d buy an R and be happy with my warranty.

This is exactly what I was worried about. I’m in Edmonton and haven’t bothered to ask because I know the answer. That being said, many of the 2020 GT500’s they were asking $170+ are still sitting, while other dealers are advertising their 2021’s sub $130.

Between the two Ford Performance dealers in Edmonton there were about 150 new 2019 Raptors on the sales lots that arrived from the late 2019 build/delivery. There are still a TON of new 2019’s on those same lots. That will say a lot for the Gen3, the R, and our current economic state here.

Shhhhh don't let everyone know we can get Gen 2s for sticker or under hahaha.

But you're right, its been crazy the past year and a half that we've had an abundance of Gen 2s and dealers have kinda struggled to sell them at times. Even right now there's 15 Gen 2s at Woodridge.

I'm betting the "base" Raptor will be no different than current Gen 2s and we will have the pick of the litter.. but the R, those will sell super fast.

And I don't even want to talk about the economic state... we're screwed here lol.

I would rather continue to upgrade my Gen 2 or buy the car the power plant was intended for.....the Mustang GT500. Then I would have best of both. Too much emphasis on truck sound.

Bingo. People don't quite understand how useless the 700 HP is off road in a truck the size and weight of a half ton. Roman, from TFL said it best. When off road comparing the TRX and a Gen 2, he was shocked at how little the extra 200 HP actually did off road. He said it didn't do anything which surprised him, which is exactly the answer. The V8 bros can go home every night knowing the ride they paid a premium for does nothing extra over a 3.5 off road. Period. Thats the hilarious part. Those bros are gonna pay through the nose for a lesser performing off-road truck.

Lol.

I'd be so happy if the only option for Raptor R was SCAB, that way all the people who wanted V8s would be forced to choose between a SuperCrew or V8.
I love this idea. SCAB are the performance model of choice due to lower size and weight so this would make total sense.
