I'm going with 3 yrs. tops and the 6.2 to be the only engine offered from here on out. It'll have it's time to shine but after a while, it won't be that "innovative and groundbreaking" vehicle anymore and like Scott said, it will be just another truck on the lot that people will start to nit-pick. Only the diehard's will be going to the dealer for a Raptor, all others will drive away in something else.

If the fuel economy for the 6.2, that has yet to be seen in the wild, is anywhere near as bad as has been stated then I think it will be a hard sell when oil goes over $100/barrel again and gas at the pumps hits $4/gallon. I know a lot of people say they didn't buy it for the MPG but $100 to fill up your truck will get old fast when you are only getting say 12 MPG, leaving your pockets draining at $0.30 a mile.

I remember when I bought my Harley truck just right before Katrina. Gas prices started going up and I figured it wouldn't last. So I sold my 4 banger back up cars but prices only got higher....3.99 in my area for super. Heck, it was cheaper to drive our Tahoe since it ran on 87 octane and got 3mpg more in town. So ya, I understand and that is why I'm having cold feet on the 6.2L option. But even with that said, I still see a 4-5yr run for the first generation.

I am saying 5-7 years due to the demand no matter what the cost of oil is. there are a lot of people that want this truck and with it breaking in to the Baja race community like it did, I think the Raptor will be around for a long time. Keeping both the 5.4 and the 6.2L engine in stock, if one goes it will be the 6.2L due to gas mileage. But honestly what is 2-3 mpg dif. between trucks? My opinion is that the 6.3L engine will go away so that it will be that much more special. IMO I think FORD will make the 6.7L in the F-250 and up and the 5.4L will stay with the F-150's. Just my opinion only after all the F-150 is a mid sized truck anyway. People just don't like to admit it but it is, and it is a Badd Arse Truck either way you look at it. Hell it is hanging in there with everything else, why not make the bigger FORD trucks better than everything else? Good job FORD!!!!!!!

It's been reported by multiple sources that the 5.4 engine is dead. Apparently it's dead as of now with the 6.2 powered Raptors hitting the streets.

As for mileage it's also been reported that the Raptor with either motor should get about the same gas mileage. We'll have to wait a while before any claims of better MPGs with one engine vs. another can be verified by real world results.

I think you can still order a 5.4 Raptor so it's not dead yet... probably will be gone next model year in the Raptor from the rumors... but you never know. It wouldn't cost Ford anything to keep the 5.4 a while longer... especially if they have some issues or delays with the new engines they're reportedly planning for the F150 lineup.

I believe the "official claims" that the 6.2 will get the same or better mileage than the 5.4 refer to the Super Duty version of the 6.2...

I'm not so sure about the "Raptor tune" version of the 6.2 matching the 5.4 mileage... but it should be close.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say Ford will probably X out the 5.4L in 2011 or 2012 making the 6.2L the only option for the Raptor.

as far as I have heard from Ford guys on the other forum 2010 is the last year for the 5.4 and the 4.6 in the f150. I talked with my Ford sales guy that places all the orders and he say the final orders for 2010 are going through the next couple weeks/months. Probably going to continue using them in the Econolines until they make the full transition to the 5.0/6.2 combo. The Raptor for 2011 will only have the 6.2...prob too much hassle to bring in a couple of 5.4 from the Econoline facility to build a small quanity of Raptors for special orders since the Raptors are built right alongside the F150s. Remember the 6.2 is going to be offered in the f150 lineup as well in the future so they will have the engines in the plant for multiple apps.

So the 5.4L Raptor could turn out to be an even more limited vehicle.
