Raptor paint issue?

If applied correctly, ceramic coating, sealant, or natural waxes should have 0% detrimental effect on your clearcoat/paint. If a protective layer messes up the clearcoat or paint, then that is some weak *** paint on our Raptors. I believe it. My 3 month old 2020 has severe orange peel texture. Several panels have debris nubs that stick way out of the paint. So tempted to sand and compound them down but that will remove the clearcoat thus uv protection.

On that photo I see a dark crack or scratch line. I also see either heavy clearcoat swirls or acid etching on the surface. Even if you leave bird poop in the paint, it takes awhile before you get acid etching if the clearcoat is of good quality.

“weak *** paint”? Our paint is far from “weak”, and is one of the best out of mass produced OEMs. All factory paint will have some level of orange peel, they’re not wet sanding every truck at the end of the line. I am highly satisfied with the paint quality on my 2019.

The bottom line is 2 people in this thread had “ceramic coating” applied to the trucks and both have the same concern. Yet your first thought is to blame the factory paint?

The fact is that a ceramic coating will not cause this problem...Period. The coating put on by the dealerships is not even a ceramic coating of the type a professional would apply anyway. Unless you paid the dealership at least an extra thousand, you paid for a spray on/wipe off coating which doesn’t last like a true ceramic coating. None of these products would cause fissuring/cracking of the underlying clear coat/paint. There are numerous documented paint issues which can be found on these forums on brand new vehicles. Ford is not known for their impeccable fit/finish. One only needs to carefully look at the door fitment to confirm this on pretty much every Raptor I’ve seen up close.

Troutrad. Exactly!!! I have placed ceramic coatings ($100-150 bottles, drop by drop) on all my cars, and love how the coating helps protect the paint. Dirt and grime washes right off. Maintenance is so much easier with the coating. And, it lasts a long time. Have it on the Raptor and I don't have the cracking defects as mentioned by the OP.

Not angry with you. Sorry if I came across that way. This just does not look like any factory paint defect I’ve seen, and the fact that an coating was applied on both vehicles with a similar concern makes me suspicious. I also don’t trust any of the 3rd party “services” that dealers sell through finance; maybe the users with the concern can clarify the brand.

I do agree with FTO that the aftermarket services offered by the dealers are usually pure garbage. I know of a few dealers that apply an aftermarket coating they say is similar to F11 or one of the other spray on/wipe off coatings. Nothing wrong with them, just not worth several hundred bucks. However, None of those products will effect the paint that way.

Ha ha...I have a bottle of that too.
Unfortunately you have to rewax afterward.
Which probably should be done after acidic droppings anyway.
I don't know how well ceramic holds up to bird goo.
I am a wax guy.
