yea but none of which were equivalent in size as the movie raptor...when i went to the museum last month...i went all out to look for a raptor photo op, and when i spoke to a couple of people about it, they laughed and said i would be lucky to find one the size of a 7 year old child...my heart sunk LOL

Yea the more you research the dino version, most is indeed hollywood BS, and althought there are several most are indeed very small versions of what you think a dino is. I think to best be true to the name, I have to give it to the birds of prey!

All dinosaur names are Latin based......there was not just one "raptor" as depicted in Jurassic Park..... Oviraptors = liked to seize eggs.....Velociraptors = used speed to "seize" what they wanted....and so on and so forth. There are many variations on the name. To say that they were stupid is a bit of a hasty generalization as they were smart enough to develop and implement hunting techniques used by modern carnivores. They were just as much raptors as they're modern day bird of prey counter parts. Raptor owners in Utah might take pride in knowing that " Utahraptor" was almost 7 feet tall and 1000 lbs with a 8-9 inch claw......I'd take a fight with a hawk over that any day of the week ;p While the " movie Velociraptor" was a bit of fiction, there was a raptor just as big in real life. Velociraptor sounds cooler than Utah Raptor I suspect. Choice is yours, but I'm a geologist/Paleontologist so I'm going dino ;p

There are several different types of Raptor(dinos) like the Utahraptor that used to live in the South Western US.

Ok so google Raptor and 9 out of 10 sites list it as Birds of Prey...

Ya, I actually thought about being a Falconer...keeping and using a Falcon for hunting or other birds of prey. Birds of prey just kick ass. We have some Harris Hawks that hang around the house and their just cool as hell to watch. We even have some Bald Eagles that will sometimes nest on the ranch:thumbsup:

hate to be the guy to say this...but dinos are dead! and are a thing of the past! Golden eagles still fly around town and are here to **** **** up! Lmao JOKING

i dont think anybody said the dino versions are dumb (as i dont recall even saying that)...i just said they are a LOT smaller than what i initially imagined, so i was a bit bummed out when i was stoked to take pics next to the extinct little creatures lol

I too dig your job, very interesting and seems cool none the less, so if there was a such thing as a rep point thingy for this site, you would get one from "this guy" with two thumbs!

but a 7 foot raptor is bad ass...but utah raptor...eh..Dodge might pick that one up LOL might be catchy for a theme in Moab!

somebody needs to let Hennessey performance know they screwed up on the name "velociraptor" for their SC Raptor...they should have went with the Utah Raptor!

Yeah Tank, I realized you posted that about Utah raptor after I posted. Guess I should try reading the whole thread before posting my .02 ;P

I don't think Hennessey screwed up too bad on their naming....Velociraptor means to sieze with speed so......

As far as my job, My degree is geology, but they force feed us Paleo to earn it. When we're looking for oil they like us to understand where it comes from;p Hence why I bought such a gas guzzler ;p
