I'm really glad I read the posts about the Bakflip cover. Love it!

I canceled the SnugLid I ordered and bought an F1 Bakflip that I should be picking up tomorrow. From my reading of the reviews, the installation does not appear to be difficult at all, should be a fun project for tomorrow afternoon.

I installed mine alone in less than 30 minutes, and that was with me measuring and laying it out twice just to be sure... you will be fine!

Yup install is really simple. Not sure why people pay to have this thing installed when it's a 15 minute bolt on.

The Bakflip is an outstanding choice TR. You're going to love it.

(Note: I own and love my FoldACover G4 Elite. Wouldn't trade it. But from everything I've seen in person and read, the Bakflip is every bit as good, just with different advantages than the G4.)

Took me about an hour from start-to-finish. The only "hard" part was setting the cover on the rails for the first time, a second set of hands would have been helpful but I muddled thru on my own.

The shop I bought the cover from wanted $100 to install it. Yeah, that was not going to happen and I'm 100% glad I drove it home and did it myself.

Question for you bedcover guys: Are these things waterproof? Will it keep my luggage dry in a driving rainstorm? How big of a problem is it not being able to see out the back if you're carrying something bulky? (where you have it folded up) Or am I picturing it wrong? Does it store vertically in sections when you fold it up?

Got caught in an unexpected storm yesterday and came out to find all my stuff soaking wet in the bed.:panic:

It's all in the install. If the bedcover is installed crooked or with the seals not proper it will leak.

I installed mine myself and here are my experiences.

When I take my truck thru the no touch high water pressure automated car wash, the BAKFlip does not leak. I would assume that this car wash will spray water harder then any thunderstorm you are in (obviously disregarding hurricanes and F5 tornado driven rain for the hairsplitters out there)

Now in regards to the panel flipped up and visibility, I had no problems at all when I bought brand new washer and dryer (huge Electrolux) and had the panel flipped up. I just used the side view mirrors and had no issues.

Well first off I don't think ANY cover is 100% waterproof, but most come darn close. Most have a drain system of some sort, but I know for sure looking at how the BakFlip sits on the bed that in a DRIVING rain storm you MAY get some minor leakage... I don't think it would soak the inside but I would never count on any top to be 100%. Here in Vegas, were we get rain, well like never, I did not even install the hoses that came with my cover. I looked at the seal on the bed and decided it was good enough and that any minor leaking if I was driving in another state would be minor enough not to care. Bottom line, just don't count on anything being 100%. Second as to the view when carrying a load, unless you need the whole bed, that is the only time the cover will be fully folded and on the back window, and then YES it is 100% obstructed. However, if that is the case, most the time whatever you have back there will probably cause the same obstruction. I think most folding covers or hard covers will do the same if you need to use most the bed. I had my folded a couple times and had no issue using the side mirrors, and when backing up I had my camera view which did help. I just think there is inherent issues with any cover and part of the trade off. Hope that helped!

Thanks for the input guys. I PM'd Rockinroad to shoot me a price on the F1. That's the best one, correct? What'd you fellas have to pay?

Best price I have seen is from a guy who is now on this site as a poster. Name is Morrie, go search the thread. I found him to be the best to deal with and best price. I got the F1 from him as it is a step above the HD in that is is cooler to the touch (great for the desert) and fiber cover rather than aluminum. Good luck!
