The thing that sucks (and it’s designed specifically this way), is that even if you do take insurance, you will still be naturally cautious so you don’t have to cover the deductible.
The only thing I can think of happening is you rear end someone in the dust cloud out in the Baja area. If this happens, insurance won’t save you much.
Had the deductible been $500 or even $1k, I’d say definitely buy it. But at $5k, I just can’t buy it based on principle. This must be a cash cow for them! And they probably adjust the repair to be $4800 and not hit the deductible.
I doubt they’ve ever had to pay for a truck’s repairs more than once or twice ever!
Chance of insurance being a good buy:
- You were in an accident
- Accident was your fault (not caused by vehicle defect or instructor doing something stupid, someone else entering the track incorrectly, etc.)
- The repairs are greater than $5,090.00 by enough to justify paying for it
- Your own insurance doesn’t cover it (I know nothing about this last bullet but would read the rental car coverage on your policy)
Has anyone been in an R/A class where someone damaged the truck??
