GEN 2 Rant: Why is the gen 3 so ugly?? Passing up a free chance to upgrade

If I were you, and you weren't worried about ruining your reputation with that dealer, I'd take the Gen 3, flip it, and buy another Gen 2 and pocket the difference.
I agree that the styling of the Gen 3 is pretty poor compared to 1/2. The Tailgate app looks like it belongs on a Nissan Titan not a ford Raptor.. it has no character at all, the rear tail lights like you said are ugly red triangles, and the front end just misses the mark. Gen 1 and 2 Raptors are so iconic for the aggressive front end and I don't get the same feeling when looking at a Gen 3.
What dealer we talking here, gotta assume it's Phil Long or Groove.

I’m hesitant to name the dealer because they are doing me a solid based on another situation and I don’t want everyone going in asking for the same deal.

Ok so they will give you a 2023 for your 2020 straight up just because? So do you have to give then your truck now and they will give your the 2023 when it arrives sometime in the future????

Alcohol or drugs were involved in this post. Unless you left out Rousch or Shelby mods and your truck new was 115k.

It sounds like they would want my truck now to guarantee the deal pricing but I have two other cars and a motorcycle so that’s fine.

This shouldn’t be THAT surprising. The 2020’s are getting offers from other dealers in the high 60’s already. The dealer is not giving me that big of a break, good value for my truck and below MSRP on the new one. Pretty straightforward.

Taking a Gen 3 at next to zero cost, that would appreciate in value the second you sign the papers, and is upgraded over gen 2 in just about every way doesn't sound like a good deal to me either.

Definitely an upgrade and I routinely “Raptor” but I find the new truck pretty hideous, at least the code orange I looked at. Maybe it will grow on me? It’s hard to be excited about getting a new truck you find ugly, even with its badass upgrades.

Also, would get 37’s but not a huge fan of the graphics and advertising your tire size to everyone. I would have to fork over money for this package.


They said I could order it Monday for $500 and if I decide not to get it, they will refund me so I’m leaning towards doing this. Then can decide later.

As the title says, this is a rant. If it were half as good looking as the G2 (IMO), I would be good with it and jump all over this deal. I’m frustrated that they took what I view as the best looking truck made and ruined it, but again, that’s just my opinion. I love the 37’s and rear suspension

I have a dealer that is willing to let me upgrade to a gen 3 for free, though I would have to pay extra for the 37’s. I went by and looked at a couple yesterday and they ruined the looks of the truck. The grill now sucks, the rounded fender extensions are no longer chiseled, the rear brake lights are ugly and the interior looks mismatched and non uniform.

It’s so bad that I think I will pass on upgrading, though I would love 37’s and that rear suspension.

What would you guys do if you could upgrade from a 2020 to a 2023 at no cost?

I should add that I thought I could get over the looks but when going by this week and spending time walking around the truck, I don’t think I can. They wouldn’t let me drive it since it was already sold but maybe that would change things too.
