Wow, now why didn't I think of that. Round here the bugs, mostly bigass dragonflies, are so thick you easily get 50 in there a day. Gonna do this asap.

I'm wondering, could you put this same kind of thing on the inside of the grille instead of over the radiator and get the same effect? That'd be a cleaner solution. At least as far as how the engine bay looks when you open the hood. I may try this out though.

I've removed the entire front grill and did exactly this. Had it this way for a few days and went back to making it cover the radiator instead. Mine isn't ugly, either...but I took about two hours to trim, zip-tie, cut and route the screen around and over stuff.

Pics when I get home in a few days.

any concerns about restricting airflow?

I know in a small area it may seem to blow through pretty easily, but over the entire surface, I'm sure it slows it down quite a bit.

That's what I'm thinking. You want to do things that keep it cooler rather than restrict air flow. I wonder if cutting horizontally slits would deflect bugs but keep air flow ? (oh that's if you mounted to grille) What you think ?

Here's an experiment:
(it won't yield any numbers but i think it will be sufficient)

1. Take a patch of the fiberglass screening and tape it over the top of a clear glass.
2. Fill another glass with water.
3. Pour into the covered glass through the screen.
4. Check to see how fast the water is flowing through the screen. (just look to see if the stream coming from the screen is approximately the same size as the stream from the cup)
5. Repeat steps 1-4 with different flow rates.

If the fiberglass screen slows the water very much, forget about it. If the water is not slowed noticeably, I'd says it's ok. Air will flow better than the water due to smaller molecules and laws of gasses vs. laws of liquids.

Staple the sheet across a 4x3 wooden frame, or whatever is roughly the size of the radiator. Do 50 mph and hang it out the window. If it rips out of your hands and smashes the windshield of the car behind you, its too restrictive lol

Well it's not very pretty but I take 1/4 inch wire mesh and zip tie it to grille(on the inside) (on my old truck not Raptor, yet ) that breaks the biggins up and does not restrict air flow. painting it black helps to hide it ?

I did this one on another car I had.. the painted grill mesh is not bad, but when you get a few thousand miles on it it starts to chip and look bad. I found myself repainting ever few months...
