My 2019 had it and I asked the dealer to disable which they did at no charge. Can’t stand that, my M3 had the same gimmic.

it’s bundled with their “noise cancellation” and it’a a package deal. If you disable the enhanced engine noise, you disable noise cancellation. Don’t worry, it’s not Bose quality noise cancellation.

It does work and if you have the stock exhaust it does change the cabin “tone” of the exhaust. It also covers some minor chirps, whirs, squeaks, rattles, knocks and minor NVH. It’s really minor, but, the ‘Rap has a really good ride quality and sound deadening so it’s easy to get used to that.

disabling the engine noise augmentation and noise cancellation will change the character of the exhaust note, and uncover some driveline and road noise you didn’t hear before. This is all very, very subtle stuff.

I did not think that disabling the fake noise/cancellation made the cabin sound ‘better’, but I also didn’t think it sounded worse. There was some additional in cabin noise at a VERY low level, but not worth going back in FORSCAN to undo it. YMMV

This. When I got my '19 I disabled it, bc "fake engine noise" ewww. After a little time I concluded that it sounded better with the fake noise. Its a somewhat subtle difference in "tone", it makes the exhaust sound slightly deeper. That and the noise cancellation and I concluded that the engineers knew what they were doing and I reenabled it in forescan.

I'd like to figure out how to make mine sound like a 2017 Shelby GT350 inside and outside. IIRC, I saw something where you could pipe in all sorts of different engine notes with a cool program that could make your Gen 2 sound like, say, an F1 car for example.

I disabled the fake noise on my 2020 on principle alone. If it's not the natural sound of the engine emanating to the cabin interior, I don't want it. YMMV.

Maybe try something like this? You would have to take it easy off road with this system though.

2018 and my new 2020 both had it and I disabled in forscan, it’s annoying and boomy/bassy comes mainly from the rear sub at heavy throttle.
