So i have been busy and not got around to installing my rock guard today and after taking out a few bolts from the diff I noticed that oil starting coming out somewhat quickly so I went ahead and put the bolts back in and tightened it all up. So I was never able to get the guard on. People said that the seal is good enough to take the bolts out, but mine sure was not. Did this happen to anyone else? I'm not sure how I'm going to install in now. I feel stupid having to take it somewhere to get it done, but I don't want to screw up my diff.

If it's leaking with some bolts removed, then just buy some rear diff oil, and change it out, better piece of mind knowing it was inspected, and cleaned, for new install. Simple to do, If you can change your oil, you can handle this, don't need to take to anyone.

So there should be no concern of the diff cover popping off when all the bolts are removed? I was afraid it might and then the seal may get damaged, or is there no rubber seal? Thanks for the input

Just buy a tube of grey silicone, 3qts of 75w-140, and drop the diff oil ,do a clean install, can't go wrong that way, or buy a qt from the dealer, and try to remove bolts while making sure the cover don't fall off or leak to bad- ( WORKING ON THE FLY ) no guaranty that way 50/50.

most people that change their diff cover have to pry the cover off and say its a PITA to get off. so i dont think its just going to fall off but there is the possibility that it could leak. Jdamage is right tho. take the cover off and inspect and clean in there then install your new parts and fill the diff with fresh fluid to spec

FvilleRaptor, don' be skeered. Actually, you're fortunate. Like Nick says, those of us who have serviced the rear differential have had to pry the thing off with force. As long as you're going to be under there anyway, do what J says and do a drain and refill. Then you won't have to worry about it for several years.

I wonder if you can get these to fit over an aftermarket/high capacity cover.

Nope, not if the aftermarket cover has extra capacity. Here is the response I got from Purple Cranium just this morning:

Hey Russ,

I think you already answered your own question when you stated the extra
capacity. That and provisions for a drain plug are the main two reasons,
there are to many reasons to list why not, if we did it could no look
like a Spider. And we may do that in the near future, but for now the
Spider you referred only fits stock or chrome covers.
