Pulley/belt squeak

Ok so update, not great news. Dealer has been discussing with Ford. They were instructed to remove valve cover, they determined sound is coming from inside the engine, possibly timing chain tensioner. It is not a pulley/belt issue. They are digging into it on Friday.

I gotta be honest, unless it’s doing damage I’m probably not doing the repair. Mine only does it briefly when it’s a cold start.

Mine is back in tomorrow for the likely pointless pulley replacement. I’ll be leaving it with them for the further diagnostic after that and will try to get them to start looking in the valve area. I’ll also follow up with Ford Canada and hopefully skip the next pointless repair. Will update as I hear anything.

Update. Unsurprisingly the idler pulley replacement didn’t solve the issue. I believe we are on the same page now as far as next steps, they agree that the valve cover area is suspect. They are hesitant to open up the engine and wing it so they have contacted Ford Engineering as well.

@310Raptor thanks for the offer. I asked them if your VIN would help anything along and they said they can only see completed warranty work so if you’re still in the diagnostic process with your dealer it’s unlikely we can pull the file, but they’d take it any event.

On an unrelated note, hope you’re doing okay out there in LA buddy, those fires look absolutely insane.

My 24 does the same thing. If I just let it idle to warm up, it starts about two minutes in and doesn't go away until I drive around for a bit. Really hoping to hear of a resolution before I take mine in for a couple other random things too.

@Siyx appreciate the kind words. Yeah, I’m right in the middle of this mess. I’ll send my vin to you in a message. Unfortunately we won’t know if it’s doing damage until the issue is diagnosed and repaired. I think this will certainly become a tsb just like previous engines that had a similar issue.

Ok got some new news. Dealer was about to take apart the truck. They received two other raptor rs and both made the same noise. They are new, and he sent the videos to me and they are indeed the same noise. Fords engineer is going to be there on Monday to give it a listen

Just because it’s happening in multiple trucks doesn’t mean it’s normal.

I’m on my second 24R, the first one did not make this noise.

Agreed. I edited my post with additional detail. Logic would say it’s either a large scale problem affecting a big run of production, or it’s normal…
