Well, it's been about two weeks since the last update on the Bed Cage/Rack due to life in the form of my son shattering his left arm falling off his bike and me getting the stomach flu while at CHOC. Anyways - Rack is back from powder coat and took the 30 minutes or so for installation. Also weighed the entire rack which tilted the scale at roughly 80 pounds. 40ish for the main base and 20ish for each side rail. It was lighter but I decided to reinforce the side rail plates for that added umph. Also re-designing the mounting points to make it easier for the end user and installation if this goes into production, which also gives a little more mounting room for water users want.

So see the pictures below and let me know if you guys would be interested in something like this and I'll go forth with the Vedoring stuffs and pump a few of these out :)

Fresh from Powder coating:

Back View:

Removal of the 6 bed bolts and placing the base: (the base will be more square towards the front for easier installation for the end user which adds more grate space for mounting whatever you want.)

Inserting side rails: (This is for a 2013, I need pictures of this location for 10's - 12's to see if it's the same)

Reinforced rail plates: (it's not going anywhere)

Loosely tightening and lining up to primary base: (There will be some play here in order to line up and tighten everything)

How it looks installed:

Just put two things on to show a possibility: (Again, this is designed for you to put whatever/however you want on it, will vary with user *it's not set in stone* the black box on the right is for a secondary battery)

I'll be spending the next week or so mounting my expedition specific stuffs. Production ones will have pre mounting holes in the middle for a spare tire add on if individuals really want to add a tire horizontally. The vendors here on the site have better solutions for you if you want to mount them, more than one, vertically. I designed this to work with a bed cover but doesn't mean you need to have one.

I like this a lot. I am picturing a how my stuff will fit and one thing I would need to think about is how my gas cans will work. I have scribner 5 gal cans that only fit under my F1 cover by less then an inch, I do like the way that some of the upright tire racks have a nice square area to strap them in. Most of them lift the cans up off the floor so a holder of sorts will have to allow the can to sit on the floor. I would also like the sides that are on the floor to be a touch closer to the wheel wells but it may not be a big deal for my stuff to be packed differently. Great work and I will follow this with great anticipation.

Looks killer, I had been contemplating fabrication of something very similar to this for a few weeks before you originally posted but it looks like you have done the R&D for me! At what price would you market these if I had you build me one?

Nice setup! What are you thinking on cost? Could you post some more pics with gear just to get a better idea on functionality?

Thanks for the complements and I haven't fully decided on a price yet. They'll have to cost a little more than the popular vertical chase racks because of how much time it takes to make one. The grate alone has to be welded in every single attachment point and I've decided to use tougher grade stuff everywhere. I also will insist that the racks/cages will be powder coated before shipping to prevent any rusting or end user issues. (but any color is fine depending on the cost) My main goal is to achieve quality over anything else, last thing I want is to ship one out to somebody and they're unhappy.

Also, I would say lead time on these is roughly 3 weeks as they'll be made to order. I know some out there like their products fast but I definitely don't want to sacrifice quality... period. I have to work out some logistics here and there along with becoming a vendor on the forum so some patience will be asked.

With that said: I'm willing to do a beta run with an individual or two at a discounted cost. We'll see.

I'll get some more pictures up with different angles shortly. Still fighting this silly stomach flu so mounting stuffs to it hasn't been a priority.
