The ecoboost is in a TON of vehicles so naturally they are going to see more issues just because there are more to break. I think the overall consensus is that they are pretty good motors. Remember if something is 99% perfect you will have 50,000 bad ones in the 5 million that have been made

run, dont walk, from GM anything. Their transmissions suck, and their paint dont stick to the vehicles either. all 4 that i have owned have been absolute garbage, under 80k miles with major mechanical issues.

Id say you’d have about an equal chance of either brand breaking… this is my first eco boost. Its great, im not like a fan boy or anything. I look at the raptor as a total package. Its the suspension, the aluminum body, factory 35’s and yea the eco boost is cool, but would I rather have a v-8 ? Yea i think most guys here would…

However, in a recent conversation with a friend who is a mechanic, he tried to get me to steer clear of them all together, mainly because of the ecoboost engine. He says he has to work on them more than most other makes,

Ford sells an F150 every 46 seconds x24x7x365. A MAJORITY of them are Ecoboost's so yes, he is going to see more of them than any other model in the world, hands down. When you are selling a vehicle with an AVERAGE transaction price of $35,002 every 46 seconds, something is working right.

I should be noted that the DI eco-boosts should be avoided. Since the raptor pioneered the port/DI mix it fixed probably the last issue with the engine minus the cam phaser nonsense. The pushrod LS motors are work horses however, the new cylinder deactivation and new lifters with the solenoid activated springs are a bit of a shit show. 5.3’s with trans from the 99-2004 tahoes and Silverados will EASILY go 300k when maintained.
