All I'm gonna say about this is that you can't blame the product for such a failure... Can't expect that because one product went wrong with someone that the product itself is to blame and that it isn't worth buying. Just like the bent frame issue on the raptors, i think the tuner was being pushed to its limit or being played with to much. I have the SCT tuner on mine and have no complaints so far about it, then again I haven't tried changing tunes 4-5 times in a day... this is just my opinion...

I agree, put 1 tune in and never messed with it again ?

Heres a question: If you unplug the battery will truck restore back to factory default ? If that happens to anyone else ?
It works on older cars/trucks to reset engine codes.
? Ford techs ?

No it wont reset back to the factory tune. The data flashed from the hand-held, or the service computers at the dealer/Ford, is programmed to the E^PROM part of the PCM. The E^PROM will not lose or change programming when the battery is disconnected.

I look forward to hearing the outcome of this and the voltage level of the DC source to the programmer / computer sounds like it could be a realistic issue and it will be interesting to see if SCT confirms this , would also like to see them post a number of minimum acceptable voltage level .

On a separate note : JP7 why the T/H mode all the time ? DO you drive on allot of roads with elevation Changes ? T/H mode will impact MPG / KPG do to the engine braking . I have seen allot of comments on shifting and seems the 5.4 owners comment even more . I am lucky to this point I guess , 6.2 built March 2011 and I could not be happier with how it shifts. If I did ever become concerned the first thing I would do is disconnect the battery for 15 plus minutes and reset the system to see if the adaptive shifting is impacting it .
( not trying to hijack thread , I will go start one on this )

No worries about the hijack - I do it all the time :)
I've no idea when mine was built, but I drove it off the showroom floor in August 2010. It's one of the early 6.2's.
I did disconnect the battery within the first 100 miles and tried to get the tranny to learn my favourite shift range - no dice. So since then, I learned that T/H mode was much more suited to the way I drive, thus use it all the time. I'm 75% city driving, and it works great for my needs. Calgary has lots of hills in town, and the way T/H holds a gear is much more beneficial than the stock setting which bogs down.
And I could give a rats ass about mileage, since I run with company gas cards.

I thought I had stated in the original post that I tried unplugging the battery...

Was pretty scary stuff to have my (less than year old) truck sitting there completely inoperable. Wouldn't turn over, click, nothing! I'm just SOOOO lucky that 1 - it didn't happen on the road hours away from home with the whole family with me, and 2 - knew somebody at Ford that was able to flash the ECM and get me back running.

Also, maybe a strange thing to say, but as unpleasant as that experience was, Mike did a fantastic job of stepping up and working with SCT to make things right. As a result, I feel comfortable highly recommending 5 star to anybody that does decide to go with a canned tune...

At least you changed the title of the thread to reflect that.
