Why drain on the battery? Because they are plugged into the OBDII port and basically always on?
because when they do fail, the steps are usually in the down position, which requires power. when left down overnight can cause excessive battery drain

I had Amp power steps on my 2014 Tremor and loved them. My original plan was to put them on my 2017 Raptor until I saw a Raptor without the factory steps and thought it looked weird without steps. It also didn't take long to see how the Raptor steps protect the sides of the truck. I had the plug and play harness I also had the pass thru harness which has an extra OBD2 port so you still have access to an OBD2 port for tuners, scan tools, etc.. Another way to leave the OBD2 port open would be to not get the plug and play harness and just splice the wires in yourself.
