A lot of regional locations put together meet ups and hit some trails for the day. That's how I would start.
There are a few companies that are putting together large runs and charge money for them. Great Lakes Raptor Excursions (GLRE), Raptor Expeditions and Treypal to name the few that are on FRF.

Have you ever planned a large get together or camping trip. There is quite a bit of leg work that goes into it.

Also, chasing money for runs can get complicated if it's for profit. If You are on government land, they want to get their cut.

Thanks @Raptor Wifey

I personally have not been on a run for profit, put on a run for profit, or will go on a run for profit. I have planned a good many runs and participated in even more. If you aren't planning on a profit run just want the money to pay everyone's expenses I would suggest a break down list showing hotels/camp grounds and cost for each area you will be stopping at. Typically when I plan a run I have a list of steps I follow. First and foremost is location and trail planning. Then following up with multiple pre runs. Trails typically will change with the season. Does any part of the trail require permits? Special permissions. What types of terrain will you be driving through. Terrain can change what recovery gear requirements you might have. How many people. The experience level of the people. Does this terrain pose any challenges for the level of experience that the group has?

These are just some small things you need to consider when planning a run. If you've not planned one before then I strongly suggest you gather some friends and do some meet ups and small trail runs just to get an idea of what you are in for. I also suggest either finding a brain with experience to pick ideas from or a partner with experience to plan with. When I planned my first run I had no idea the amount of detail and organization I was in for. My appreciation for all the planners for the runs I had been on grew exponentially.

I think it's fairly safe to assume that with TRR and GLRE that the profit margin is small in comparison to the amount in donations. These events are not cheap to put on once you take into consideration permits, insurance, catering, etc etc. But I'm sure @treypal and @WorldTour know way more about that than I do.

Great advice so far.

My advice; if you're going to plan events don't expect to make money. You pretty much have to be in it for the love of the sport (not sure what to call it haha). I've met some amazing people and built great friendships through organizing and participating in runs which is payment enough.

Yes, Raptor Expeditions Club has a $75 membership fee but it still doesn't cover the cost of gas for the 6-8 club runs we put on a year. So, I don't think you can call us for profit either haha.
