Tinting laws are meant to be ignored. Ditto front tag

So, MANY years ago a really good friend of mine bought a clean, nice 350 ’72 Cutlass in the traditional Oldsmobile green. Not super fast but not slow either. Not long after buying it, he’s stopped and for no other reason than there was nothing better to do, he’s roadside interrogated, refuses consent search and is detained. Drug dog called, arrives some time later and what do you know - dog “alerts” where handler tells him to alert, which in MD gives the green light for a search which reveals.

Nothing.

Aside from about 2.5 hours of wasted time as the local PD tears the car apart trying to find something - ANYTHING to justify the stop. They found nothing, because my buddy was as straight as they come; Boy Scout level. He gets a warning and on his way.

They way I know this was not a stop with reasonable suspicion - cops put everything back like they found it. Anyone in LE knows, this doesn’t happen.

You can flaunt tint, plate and other petty infraction laws you want but I have better things to do with my time than sit on the side of the road discussing the finer points of detention, in custody, reasonable suspicion and at what point I am free to return to my lawful business.

I don’t tint the front doors because this is exactly what happens in PA

Given I live in CA, this is exactly why I keep it legally with a 70% VLT for the front windows.
you are forgetting, automotive manufacturers already bake a 70% into the glass. so in california, ANYTHING you put on your front windows are illegal. however you can get away with a light shade, im guessing op has something dark on the front. the back windows can be as dark as you want.

70-80% full ceramic on the windshield and no cop will ever tell.

@scubamike I have a medical exemption, so my recommendation would be to date a dermatologist :Big Laugh: lol probably much safer thing to do in case the cop(s) say okay, let’s walk outside and see your truck after you show the picture.
