Perch Mod

Looking to do the mid-perch mod this weekend on my 2014 raptor with 11k miles. Is it just set the front shocks to mid perch and get an alignment? Is the alignment necessary and do you recommend at dealer or any local shop would be fine? Do I need to buy anything after setting it to mid perch or is it just basically set it, bolt everything back on and I am good?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Should I attempt to ask the dealer if they would know how to do it and have them work on it?

I also have a local mechanic that I use to have work on my last f150 and my dads vehicles for the past 20 years but have not taken this truck to him since its under warranty. Should attempt to have him do the mod and alignment?

Since dealers can deny warranty work for this mod and have it documented, I would have the work done elsewhere so it is not on record at your dealer as a service they did. If they don't about this mod, they can't deny you for it.

Just 2 cents. I used RPG's video and with a set of $50 Craftsman spring compressors from Sears, I did the job in 3 hours at home for free. No real skill needed. My local dealer does free alignment checks so I took advantage of that afterwards.

Call me crazy, but when the dealer performs the free alignment, isn't the technician going to notice that, not only is it way out of spec, but that it is on mid-perch too?

Yes, if the alignment tech is halfway decent, he will. I went elsewhere so my dealer wouldn't see it. But then again, I always looked at that benefit if for some reason it was out of alignment from factory or during transport, not something you caused my changing the suspension. Some dealers will do it so all too you.

You are supposed to be able to get your tires balanced without charge too when under 12k. Nope, my dealer charged me because apparently mine happened when I took it off-road.

So they sell a vehicle, with a DVD that explains how to beat on it offroad, and then charge you to balance the tires because you did. I'm really glad that my dealership isn't as ****** as some of the ones I've heard about on this forum.

I always tell them I had been offroad and wanted it checked. Mine was dead on even after going to mid perch. But the answer to your question is yes and no. If they don't know, keep it that way. If they do well...you run the risk.
