Parking then truck sways back and forth

Sorry guys, I couldn’t find a thread, I’ll delete this if its a duplicate.

When shifting into park, regardless of the grade or angle of the surface, the truck shifts forward and backward noticeably. I’ll shift into park and then release the break and the truck definitely sways way more than my gen2 or gen1 ever did. Almost like there’s a ton of slack in the brake that gets released or something.

Anyone else? Normal?

not 100% sure if normal but I can confirm my 2020 can rock pretty easily back and forth in the garage when parked (without parking break applied). There is also a considerable degree of free rotation in the driveshafts both front and rear. I noticed this when replacing my front diff pinion seal.

Set your parking brake before shifting into park. The weight of the vehicle is on the parking pawl inside the transmission and can give an aggressive release.

The transmission applies 3 clutches (A, B, & D) in Park to prepare for engagement of Drive or Reverse. The drag from the clutches can create a rocking sensation in Park.

I haven't noticed any swaying, there is definitely more slop in the Gen 3 than 2 and 1 though. Sometimes it feels like it rolls several inches after putting in park.

I’m suspecting it may actually be the opposite. The leaf springs on Gen 2 deflect when torque is applied, so they will absorb some of that movement. The Gen 3 control arm rear axle maintains pinion angle, so the truck will move instead of the pinion angle.

While I’m a mechanical dummy, I am very in tune to anomalies. I’ve owned 3 Gen2s and now Gen3 and I’ve never noticed what the OP reports.

I always go to neutral to allow any driveline binding (if that's the word) to release, then parking brake, then park. Unless I'm at home or parking on a level surface for an extended period of time, I won't use the brake.

You sir are very thorough. Even my lowly Gen 1 does this some times. Not always. Depends on the angle of the surface I park. Starbucks parking lot is super level so no issues there.
