I average about 6 trips a year to Panamint Valley & Death Valley. The one way distance from Santa Cruz is about 450 miles. Driving the RV and flat towing the Jeep, this takes somewhere in the 8-10 hour range (each way). The RV also averages 6-8 mpg for the trip (do the math).

Last year I left our RV and Jeep in Panamint from late summer to Thanksgiving. I flew in and out of San Jose to Panamint, with the owner of Panamint Springs, Tim, instead of driving. The plane makes the trip in 2hrs 15mins, and burns maybe 35-40 gasl of Avgas. It was a great way to go play in the desert.

Here's the approach & landing to Panamint Springs - experienced bush pilots only pls.

If you talk nice to Tim, he's been known to throw in freebie joy rides around the valley.

I hope he could see the landing strip better than we can in that video! Until he flew over the road it was nearly impossible to tell where he was going.

This'll be a great trip!

The camera glare was bad. It was a pretty good naked eye view.
