I started to throw the code P0153 - O2 circuit slow response - the last couple of days. Bank 2 sensor 1. So driver side, upfront of my cat. Yes, running GESI cats with ARH LT headers.

It didn’t look bad to change at all, so I stopped at O’Reilly’s and they said the upfront driver side is Bosch 13723. Bought the O2 sensor and headed home.

Short version - 13723 is the downstream o2 sensor and the one that O’Reilly listed for downstream was in fact the one I needed for upstream.

Anyone run into that before? O2 sensor corrected the issue and all is well again.

Same but different:

They listed a throttle body for the 6.2L in the Raptor that was actually for the 6.2L in an E-Series or 5.0 Coyote. Causes absolute havoc in the PCM. Ask me how I know…

After replacing the o2 sensor, cel stayed off for about 40 miles.

Today it is back. Any suggestions? I’m going to see if I can find any damaged wires from the R&R on the engine.

Upfront, driver side.

Today it is back. Any suggestions? I’m going to see if I can find any damaged wires from the R&R on the engine.

Upfront, driver side.
Get a Motorcraft o2 sensor from ford parts dept. using the vin number for your Raptor.

Is it the same DTC? Slow response (P0153) is a conditional DTC, not a circuit DTC. It’s not uncommon to have it set after long tube headers are added, since the O2 is further from down in the exhaust stream. It can also set due to intake air leaks, exhaust leaks, fueling issues, or MAF related issues.

What is the difference in a conditional DTC and circuit DTC. I’m assuming circuit would be something that interrupts the signal. But not sure what the conditional part is.

If the code is thrown, does it adversely affect the way the truck runs?

My truck is pretty rowdy. New long block from Livernois, whipple 2.9 pushing around 18 psi boost, pushing 730 whp on E85.

Conditional=Performance related
Circuit=Electrical issue

Basically what @Gryphon313 said. The PCM monitors oxygen sensor response time by commanding a calibrated fuel control routine. The DTC sets when the oxygen sensor signal does not reach the predicted amplitude within a predetermined response time. The distance of the O2 sensor from the engine plays a significant role in that. However you have a ton of other variables due to the S/C and tune, so you may want to discuss with your tuner.

I still don’t feel good about something, so I wanted to get more input. I do have a new O2 sensor ordered from Ford. That’ll be here next Tuesday.

If you look at the description on the 18069 Bosch o2 sensor in the attachment, this shows downstream.

O’Reilly listed it the same. Downstream.

My P0153 code is for the bank 2 upstream.

Is it possible the O2 sensors were swapped during R&R of my motor?

Which sensor is upfront on your truck?

The connector housing color at the plug connection could tell me this.

Per Bosch - Gray plug downstream and black plug upstream. But I’m my case, I have the gray plug upstream.

I’ll crawl under the truck tomorrow and see what the passenger side looks like.

Kooks and SW headers both talk about using an o2 extension cable to relocate downstream o2 sensors to the locations now used with their headers.

Was this supposed to be done with ARH as well? Upstream has plenty of length to go upstream. I’d probably have to zip tie up the extra length.

But downstream will not reach downstream with oem sensor cable length.

I still have my old o2 sensor. Some extension kits are literally cutting and soldering on a new connector. So I should be able to cut my old harness, piece it back together with about a 16” extension and test this.
