ok got my truck comming very soon... you bastards got me thinking about the bedrug now.... what worries me is the zippers.... is there like weather stripping that goes over it or something? i do like the padding idea. the other thing is with the bed extender and tie downs.... ive seen others say to just cut a slit in the bed rug and push those thru, others said to just drill it thru.... but wouldnt the extra space between the bed and tie down add alot more stress on the bolt? and wouldnt cutting a slit in it cause a leak point?
so im still debating.... i do like the look and permanentness of line-x, pluss the ability to do the wheel wells. but i like the padded bed alot too. and i will be getting a tonno, most likley a Bakflip. thanks guys!
don't worry about the zippers. I pulled my bedrug up earlier this year after being in my one truck for 8-1/2 years, not a mark on the paint from the zippers. The padding on the bedrug is so thick, the zippers are recessed into it and don't directly rub on the paint. Not to mention, the bedrug is stuck down in place so tight with all the velcro, it doesn't move or vibrate like a hard liner thats just sitting in place with nothing holding it down and shaking all over. I also just took the bedrug out of my 2nd HD that was in there for 2 years, demodding it to sell, and not a mark from the bedrug or zippers either.
As for the tie downs and bed extender hardware, do NOT slit the bedrug! THats the half *** way of doing things, and you'll deserve a ****** slap LOL! Unbolt the hardware, install the bedrug, and bolt it back in over top the bedrug. The install looks OEM. For things like the tiedowns, little trick, remove the tie downs, reinstall the bolts 1/2 way in, install the bedrug, feel for the bolt heads, cut an X over the bolt heads and pop the bolt head through the bedrug, remove the bolt one side at a time, bolt the tiedown back on. The hole locations will be perfect, there's no drilling, the holes will be tight against the bolts. As for more stress on the bolts, are you lifting the entire truck from the tiedowns? lol. It'll maybe be 1/8" of material compressed down between the tietown and the bed with the bedrug installed. You'd rip the threads out of the bed before you'd bend a bolt on that tiny bit of a moment arm
