Big J, sorry, I meant to ask what size you would upgrade to if and/or when your current compressor goes out.

10-4.

I've got my eye on this:

ExtremeAire Magnum Air Compressor, 12 Volt Magnum Air Compressor, 1.5 HP Fan Cooled Motor

Check out that amp draw though! Obviously this would far exceed what the Raptor's upfitter system can handle, so that would mean changing the wiring up quite a bit to support it.

Also, would mounting it on one of the VIAIR brackets help protect it from debris, rocks, etc?
VIAIR Corporation - Mounting Bracket Part No. 95901
Not in my opinion. Just another shelf for crap to collect on further limiting airflow around the unit.

I axed the tank, keaton. I didn't like the idea of driving around with a bomb under me, and quite honestly I saw no benefit after about the first half of the first tire fill up (once all the air from the tank was dumped into the tire, I was basically running straight off the compressor anyway, so might as well simplify the whole system, drop several points of failure, make it safer by not allowing for forgetting to empty the tank before driving again, etc etc). It ultimately didn't make sense to me to keep it, just to save a couple minutes real time during fill up.

That makes sense. Can you run air tools off the compressor alone?

Huh I never thought to try. I have no doubt you could with the ExtremeAire I linked to, but I wonder if the Viair 450C would be overmatched. If I get some time, I'll try it out and grab a quick vid.

PS: I expect the tank would help the power tool situation. For a little while, anyway.
