GEN 2 On board air compressor and tank install

ARB twin compressor and tank installed on frame rail under passenger side with air hose run to rear bumper. Wired to AUX 6. Plenty of room and straight forward install.

Any issues with the compressor getting caked in mud or exposed to water? I've seen this mounted under the hood and under the second row where it's more protected. I usually run my truck through a undercarriage wash after a trail run.

It stays relatively clean at this location but we are just coming out of winter here so i haven’t gotten any off road yet. Seemed to stay clear of the slush and salt.

you will have issues with the fan and intake. you should move the compressor to a clean area. the viair compressors you can mount underneath because there is no fan and the intake can be ran under the hood. the arb compressors dont have that available. the fan motor will corrode/rust because its not protected from the elements and dust, dirt, mud, salt, etc and will no longer work causing the compressor to overheat and eventually damage it.

Just my dumb opinion here. This is a damn good job but I don’t think it’ll work for me. I’ll be fording in a few places and the electrics on the ARB aren’t exactly water proof. However, if you’re not doing that, this has been working pretty good over the last year.

I would offer two suggestions. One is ARB’s air filter relocation kit. Even if you aren’t fording, you’ll hit water at some point. The relocation kit would let you move the filters to a higher position to give the compressor more protection. Speaking of protection, someone already mentioned mud. A fabricated shield of some sort would probably help a bit. It just needs to be a light material, like a plastic of some sort.

Again, that’s a pretty good setup. I’d really like to see an kit to mount it under the hood but I’ll probably do a custom setup of some kind in the bed.

One man’s opinion here. While I love the install, I’ve got to believe that the compressor, especially the ARB, would not like all of the dust generated from driving on back roads.

My two trucks live in the dust. The F250 (never gets washed) has a dust coating on the frame almost 1/8’ thick. The Raptor (washed only May-Oct) has a dust coating approx 1/16’ thick on the frame.

I run a pair of Honda EU2000’s pretty hard...maybe 20 hours a week...and need to scrape the dust off of those every few weeks. They get dusty just from the wind.

This is West TX special dust...so might not be applicable to all of us. For me the dust would cause failure, either from overheating or from dust clogging the filter.

I’m hoping that one of us comes up with an under hood install soon

I believe OP did a good job with install.
But, I personally, would avoid mounting anything underneath the truck.
( esp here in NYS, between the weather, road salt, debris, pot holes, etc..)
I mounted mine on the Bed, with the Builtright panel.
