Almost all Motorcraft oil filters use the silicone Anti-Drain Back Valve.

We are talking 1/4" difference.

But who cares you wouldn't put this one on anyway, get the Racing one.

Motorcraft Oil Filter PRODUCT CHANGE FOR THE FL 820S

The length of Motorcraft oil filter FL-820S (F1AZ-6731-BD) is being reduced, allowing for easier removal and installation.

There are no changes to the performance attributes of the oil filter.

The smaller filter size will also result in the pallet quantity being increased by one layer or 120 pieces.

The chart below provides a summary of the changes:

The S in fl820s does not stand for shorter/smaller or whatever. It designates the Anti drain Back seal which ford started using when cam phasers came along... The size reduction that happened didn't involve a part number change. It was the fl820s before and after the change.

I see what your saying, the part number didn't change.
It was silicone before and after size change.
I got that from the parts guy at the dealer when we were looking for the double size Racing filter for the 6.2.

I should have known better, he didn't even know that there were seven different Racing filters until I showed him the Ford Racing website on my phone.

http://www.fordracingparts.com/m/CatResults.asp?c=47

I stand corrected!

Update:

I was on the phone with Ford Racing this morning trying to figure out if any of the Extended Ford Racing Oil Filters would replace the Ford Racing FL 820 one.
I'll let you know if interested, if they can find out.
There are only six different ones left one was discontinued (I believe he said FL 299). Of course one of the ones I was looking at.
Need to update their website.

Filters with discount were $16.90 each plus Tax at dealer.
Oil $9.99 a quart, they do go on sale from time to time at Pep Boys

I just want to throw this out there. This combo before sales tax is $86.83. Just so everyone has a good price comparison. 7 quarts of Amsoil 5w20 Signature series and an EAO11 filter shipped to anywhere in the lower 48 states will cost about the same as that stated price including shipping and sales tax. Amsoil is not always the most expensive option for full synthetic engine oil service.

I just ordered Amsoil 5 - 20 signature with their 25000 mile filter. It's a little bit more than Mobil 1 or Royal Purple, but not that much.

I change the oil in everything we have, once a year. I can go longer with oil analysis sampling, but I run my vehicles pretty hard and and honestly, once a year for me is simple and cheap enough for my personal needs. Let me know if I can help with any questions or anything else for that matter.

I will be changing only once a year, because I will be probably under 3000 miles in a year.
