Off-road mode adjusts how the transmission shift and some other things. Do you return to stock when using off-road mode or do you just leave your performance tune loaded? How is shifting and such handled when a tune is loaded?

EDIT: I have the 5 Star tunes if that makes a difference

Good question, I have been trying to get under this question for weeks now.

I've noticed that people with a 5star tune typically do not like off-road mode.

I noticed a difference with the off-road shifting when going from stock to 5star performance tune to the custom tune I run now. As far add off-road mode goes, my custom tune mimics the stock shift points in off-road mode.

You should call Mike at 5star and see what he has to say regarding what his tune is changing.

Offroad mode shift schedule is not messed with, The PCM will adapt to how the driver uses this mode. Many may have noticed deferent behavior in offroad when comparing day 1 to maybe a few trips later.'

Quoted from the SVC tune thread. We have to remember that the truck is constantly learning our driving patterns. Whether we are running a rune or not.

So I just ran 5-star w/ Off-Road mode at Silver Lake this last weekend and one thing I noticed was when heading back down test hill (or other taller hills) the truck felt like I had an engine brake on - almost like the wheels were back-driving the engine. Not sure how safe that was.

I dont remember this happening with the stock tune but I will have to play with different configuraitons next time I am there.

Did you have Jill decent on? Or not pressing the go peddle? I can't really help ya with stock tune, I was doing about 80-90 by the time I was at the next hill.:ROFLJest:

Only thing I could say is it was just holding the gear while you were going down hill, coupled with soft sand slowing ya down at the same time, to where if you were just coasting it would feel like that. I dunno hard to say without being there.

No hill decent no go pedal. I agree it was either holding a gear or down shifting when I reached the top. Either way, coast loading the gears isnt a good idea unless they were designed for it.
