I would doubt if there is a GPS signal broadcast over the CAN-BUS, that is most likely isolated to just the GPS computer. The VSS signal is usually the reference used by all the other devices. It would originate from the ABS computer and be sent to any of the other systems that require a speed reference. (Instrument Cluster, Radio/speed dependent volume, Body Computer/auto locking, Navigation Computer/Dead-reckoning when there is limited GPS signal.)

From the factory, my 2010 F-150 disc drive was a DVD player that would display on the OE display, but it would cut out once you started to drive. I added a toggle switch to the VSS wire going to the audio system. With the VSS wire interrupted, it would allow you to play a DVD while driving, but only for a few minutes and would then cut out. All the other circuits to the audio system connectors were audio related with the exception of a lot of CAN stuff. I can only assume that the GPS was somehow killing my DVD play through CAN... don't know for sure though.

Quick compare of the two ETAC modules. You gain access to the unit by removing the center speaker in the dash.
