When I moved to SOCAL from Portland, OR the first friends I met were Dezert Ratz. It didn't take long before I jumped head first into desert scene in 2000! I bought a 1988 Ford Ranger 4X4 and a 1980 KZ 250.

My desert trip comrades didn't care what I had and neither did I, because tearing up dirt and exploring the desert was so much ******* fun! Getting together with like minded people that would help you out without question is amazing.

Over the years my skills advanced and I kept wanting to push myself even more. Since my first trip I've had a 2004 Silverado and 2004 Yamaha wr450, 2003 Tundra and 2008 Honda 450X, and now a 2013 Raptor and 2011 530 EXC. I spent some dough on modifications on all of them and replaced many broken parts.

I guess I just wanted to say that no matter what you have, it's going to cost a few bucks to keep running in an as new state. Hell even trophy trucks break and have teams working full time to keep them running.

I enjoy the adrenaline rush of the bike but also use it to pre run trails that I take the truck on later. Knowing what is coming up next and how the terrain has changed from the last trip brings less surprises and less hits on the check book.

I modify my toys in an attempt to protect me and them from those "Oh Shit" moments that happen when I push to far, or have had a few to many and have no business driving in the first place.

The desert and the people that play in it are awesome! I call them true friends because they never judge and always lend a hand. I love my Raptor and my bike, but it does cost to play.

end rant

What he said ^

And no matter what you have, I would rather you came out and joined others enjoying the desert then not at all. There really is nothing like this and it's so much fun being around others and working in these vehicles. It's not just a Raptor thing- can't wait to see what you get Bieber. Bring it out to the future runs too. I know that there are many trucks out there for less than a third of the price of the Raptor. And they can outperform a Raptor with the right modifications.
