Consider me an old lady on her way to church on Sunday. I drive in normal basically all the time. Other(s) have said when they want sport or fast they drive their sports cars.

Other than a fast, mean sounding '21 Cayenne GTS with V8, my wife's ride, which I can have my jollies in any time, I got those out tracking 911s many, many times.

These days my Raptor is my sedate commuter to and from Costco and the range. No need for sport.

I use mine as a daily driver, mostly in normal mode, and usually never over 7th gear. Too much gear shifting in stop an go traffic. Helps with gas mileage(even though I don’t care about mileage), and tow haul quite a bit so it holds shifting and gives you that jump when you want to get around slow cars. Sport mode ever so often when I just want to let her run. She performs well on 93 non ethanol so I let her indulge about twice a week. Still loving my RR 18. Best truck I ever owned. Never been back to Ford since the day I purchased her. Some of you might go oh my God but I take good care of her. She has no issue of any kind and runs smooth as glass. Scared some half a— mechanic will screw it up.. 52000 miles and loving her..

I concur with @MDJAK

Its also my daily driver so im not interested in breaking it. Even when I go off roading I don't go into BAJA at all...
Here in Az non baja mode wont cut it in sandy river beds where we can let loose. The higher RPM helps keep power to the sand to avoid digging in and getting stuck.

Normal for a few minutes until the truck gets to temp, then Sport all the way.

Why hasnt anyone come up with a test?

1 week in sport
1 week in normal

  • Gas mileage
  • Transmission feel
  • Which gear it stays in the most
I've kinda done this in a way on my own. Decades ago, I got better mileage at higher RPM in 4th gear in my Fox Mustang than in fifth gear at lower RPM due to higher vacuum.

Fast forward to electrical whiz-bang stuff and I'm kinda eh about all that.

I drive about 20 miles a day round trip, highest speed limit is 45, and I'll occasionally see 62 maybe if traffic is moving. Definitely more vacuum in Sport Mode vs Normal, though higher RPM.

I've done very scientifical research and in my instance - it doesn't matter what I do, I average about the same no matter what. For 8,000 miles, I can dog it around town in Baja everything and feel like a badass with a "locally hated" sticker, or I can keep the revs under 1.3k and mosey around and it doesn't matter one bit.

On a highway long haul, absolutely just normal, even though sport will go into 10th gear and be a bit more twitchy to downshift into 6th to crest a slight incline when 8th would have been more than satisfactory.

Guess there's a difference between satisfactory and satisfying. Thankfully in my personal situation never requiring to be in a hurry, I can do whatever I want and it doesn't affect anything.

That said, I prefer low RPM anyway cuz lord knows I used my body at high RPM, even if at high efficiency and I'm physically broke as a joke

I like sport mode on mountain grades both up and down. But for flat highways normal mode is fine. I don’t really use it in town nor daily drive it. 90k on an 18 no issues yet.
