She’s going back in on Monday and I hope to get them to find the problem other than just replacing the bearing.
The dealership I’m at with the truck is very solid. I’m hopeful they’ll figure this out.

She’s still in the shop. They completely took apart the front diff and inspected all the parts. They found a crack in the diff case but everything else looked good. Hopefully I’ll get her back this week.

So they had her awhile. She’s ready to pick up tomorrow. The front diff case had a crack in the bearing race. They replaced the case. Hopefully she’s all better now. We’ll see. Pretty grateful for the extended warranty.
I really hope she doesn’t have a puddle of gear oil under her after I park her overnight. It would be awesome if she was all better

To resurrect the dead horse - that’s where a lift would strain the differential case if I’m understanding your failure description correctly. The question I would have is was the crack there all along, for all the bearing replacements or did the crack form along the way?

It would definitely be awesome if the truck was fixed once and for all. I’d be keeping an eye on it watchfully.

You guys get that thousands of raptors run on 37” tires and ford even sells it as an option right? The travel is unchanged, if anything the axle is higher up in the droop which is where most the travel is. I’d have to get technical and measure but with lifting the truck with the coil springs, then putting a bigger tire on the axle might be at the same exact angle. The aftermarket fox 3.0’ shocks are a massive upgrade in ride compared to the Oem shocks. I really doubt that’s the culprit.

It started leaking at 8000 Miles Along with the oil pan. It’s never stopped leaking I just would get tired of being without a truck for weeks at a time.

according to Ca. buy back laws I had already fulfilled the requirements for a buy back so this time they suddenly wanted the whole front diff taken apart and crack checked.

I brought her home this morning and the driveway is still oil free so I’m STOKED!
It could be my fault too, I get that. I’ve treated her pretty good except for the time I launched her off the top of Oldsmobile out at glamis.
sarcasam. Kidding, never really did that.
She has done a boatload of Baja Offroad miles though.

Bottom line I’m stoked to have her back and a full replacement diff if I do it myself is 2700 bucks so not like out of the realm of possibility In the future.

I looked up the 37” package that ford sells. Bigger tires, different wheels, 1/8” bigger shock shaft which means the 37 package comes with a shock that‘s closer to a real 3.0 shock. The one that comes on a normal raptor is more like a 2.5 shock internally than a real 3.0 shock.

So basically exactly what I have but my guess is they are only using the real 3.0 shock shaft but not the rest of the actual 3.0 internals.

No change in the CV joint or the axle shaft in the 37” package.

welp I’m getting hip replacement soon and hope to be back surfing by the time we make the all dirt run from the border down to scorpion bay in mid August. That’s my only real worry at this point, and getting my extended warranty extended out to 8 years total.
