New Rear diff cover and fluid change

26ft pounds? That is really high. I did my gen1 with a mag-hytec diff cover and the bolts specs was 18 foot pounds.

I just replaced the diff cover with the Ford Performance. In hindsight, I should have opted for the Spicer. I ended up using a lube locker gasket and had good experience in the past. No more messy RTV silicone! Now I can change out diff oil in a breeze. I also replaced the rear pinion seal that was leaking and that's why I originally bought the diff cover. Certainly could have saved some coin if I got below the truck sooner but it sure does look good!

Edit: Do yourself a favor and replace bolts that come with Ford diff cover. They are garbage and start to strip at around 26 Ft lbs...

26 ft lbs is not really high fyi. Especially for a steel bolt 5/16" in diameter. Frankly it's pathetic for a bolt that size to start stripping at the that torque.

I torqued my rear diff down to 30ft lbs once I got grade 8 bolts. I think Ford torque spec is 33 ft lbs. Either way its not a high torque. Thanks for your comments.

I was just thinking... Perhaps Ford is smarter then all of us! Maybe these so called "junk bolts" are designed to strip at such a low torque to prevent over torque??? Either way I opted for a bolt that can be reused but maybe there is more to it then all of us thinking they just cheaped out on hardware... Or maybe I am overthinking this as well haha..

But then who knows. I did my gen 1 at 18ish and ran it for 5 years with no issues and I did not strip any of the bolts when I put them on.

Your using a completely different diff cover with an o-ring... You realize o-ring applications take less torque to seal right? I am talking about factory Ford torque specs. The factory diff cover and the Ford Performance are not o-ring based... Completely different. 33ft lbs is factory torque spec...

This is apples and oranges. I am not using a Mag-Hytec cover... If you have turned wrenches as long as I have you would realize that 26ft lbs can be achieved with a 1/4" ratchet. What is your argument exactly?

Thanks for showing the instructions that came with your completely different diff cover. Your telling me I am over torquing what Ford spec is. The point I was making is a 5/16" bolt should not strip at 26ft lbs. The factory bolts showed no sign of stripping at the correct torque of 33ft lbs. This is not an o-ring application.

I am calm and I appreciate you letting me do what I want to my own truck...

What is the fluid capacity with the FP/Spicer cover I just put 3 quarts in mine and not running out of the lower fill hole yet?

Old thread but getting ready to do a spicer cover.
Spicer bolts no good and reuse the oem is your suggestion?
Are spicer bolts longer than stock because stamp oem cover versus thick aftermarket flange?
Cover is on order and I don’t have it in front of me, I would like to have install ready to go when it gets here. Thanks.
