a locking tailgate is a false sense of security. even with your tailgate locked, it can be stolen with very little extra effort compared to being unlocked. add an aftermarket alarm with a switch connected to the tailgate and an actuator so it locks and unlocks with the remote so you never forget to lock it. and add a lock to keep the tailgate permanently attached to the rest of the truck. even with all the added security, your tailgate can still be stolen. however a LOT less likely. thieves dont like to draw attention to themselves so make it as hard as possible to have your vehicle/tailgate stolen
