Just thought I would make some random comments on my experience with my Screw 2014 and see any comments you all might have.
I am glad I have the last year of the 6.2 Ltr. V8. This is a wonderful engine. I love its sound, the way the stock tune and gearing take it up in acceleration. I like the little hesitation from first gear to second. It has acceleration at all the speeds and the wide stance is so enjoyable for driving, not to mention the super quick steering response. I feel like I am driving a true technological advance here. Something new and innovative thought up by some very smart people.
I am sure the new 2017 will also be great but I wonder if that smaller engine will give the emotional satisfaction that this one does. 10 speed transmission and a high revving V-6 may have as good or better performance but will it feel as big and solid under you? Just sitting it and feeling the rumble of all that power is intoxicating.
I found a very good place for photography on the way into Everglades National Park up on a levy with a massive view south over flat, flat farm land in planting season. I am going down there to take cloud pictures over the fertile land. A beautiful spot and wonderful view for photography. I have a Little Giant knock off ladder in the truck and I open it and set it up in the bed to get a good high perspective. I can get about 15 up off the bed of the truck, which, including the truck and the levy gives me a total of about 30 feet off the tilled land. Just right.
But the point I wanted to make is that the track in there is not particularly difficult for the Raptor and getting up and down the levy is also pretty easy. The road in there tho is a bit long, about 15 miles of dirt, gravel, old pavement and potholes. In my Sierra I would drive it at about 25 miles an hour and get jounced around pretty good. In the Raptor I am taking easy at 55-60 and feeling no bounce or jounce at all. I can easily go 70mph too. This makes a difference because I can get down there in about half the time it would normally take. Gives me a chance to keep going in again and again in search of the right cloud formations and time of day. The key in this kind of photography is patience.
I had thought about getting a truck tent to be able to stay down there and be there early and late for sunrises and sunsets but the tent was a bear to put up (Kodiak Truck Tent 6', and the cots were too long to fit in the bed. I am 66 and my wife is 64 so we want something easier to do. Decided to stay at a local Homestead motel instead.
Anyway, just some musings,
hope everyone is well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
