New guy here with a question

Hey guys I'm new to the Raptor family and this forum. I traded in my 2011 Wrx and got a 2013 Raptor last week. I've put gas in it twice then driven home and both times there's a really strong gas smell at the bed of the truck. I didn't want to park in the garage because the smell was so strong. I didn't spill any gas and the second time I waited the 5 seconds before pulling the nozzle out. I was just wondering cause it doesn't seem normal but not having a gas cap is weird too haha. Sorry if this isn't the right spot for this question.

First let me welcome you to the Raptor family and the forum. You should not be smelling gas. Have you gotten under the truck and looked to see if it’s wet anywhere? If not crank it and then get back under and make sure there’s no leak anywhere. With it running the fuel system will be under pressure and maybe you can find something. Check under hood also. Make sure you locate the fuel filter and insure it’s dry under pressure. I have an 18 of course no gas cap but 0 Oder of gas at anytime. It really sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Check on top of fuel tank also around where the pump and sending unit goes in. Maybe when you fill it and it sloshes it could be coming out around the cover plate. Good luck and Ihope you locate the source of5he smell. I would not want to smell gas around mine like that.

I looked around under it some and I couldn't see any leaks I'll have to get under it this weekend and really check it out. I just didnt know if this was a common problem or not. I tried googling it and searching the forums but couldn't find anything on the issue

My 2010 does this sometimes. Although I’m not sure to the same level as yours. The issue on mine is that the canister purge valve/canister vent is bad so all the vapors come back up the filler neck instead of going the other way, which gets little droplets of gas in places it’s not supposed to be, and it doesn’t take much to get it smelling strong.

one easy way to tell if your CPV is bad (which is common on the 6.2) is on a cold start if you hear what sounds like a small header leak until the truck is warm. Check the electrical connections/wires on the CPV, and the CVS, sometimes it’s as simple as a frayed wire with moisture in it, other time both parts need replaced.

That could be it. Its really strong smelling right after filling up and driving a couple of time then it seems to go away.

Yesterday I filled up on my way home from work. It smelled like gas while pumping and when I got home. Then I drove somewhere else and back home and it smelled like gas again but this morning I didnt smell it at all

You keep saying the smell is right after fill up and a bit of driving, then it goes away. Any records on your truck? Did prior owner change a fuel pump? It sure sounds as if you have a leak at the top of the tank. Fill that baby to the top of the fuel neck and get under there with an inspection mirror and see if it’s leaking around the sending unit/fuel pump panel.

That is the correct procedure!

Once the nozzle clicks do not try to continue to top off or round out the pennies.
