First time truck owner in addition first raptor on order. Do you mind doing a brief lowdown on the different lights you talk about in your original post here. What’s so bad about the factory rigid lights vs the options you discuss? Thanks"
Sure. No problem. Thanks for reaching out. So it basically comes down to what you want. Since the Raptor was introduced, Ford never put fog lights in them. Just the open pockets on each side. The point was just air flow through.
Being an off-road truck, people wanted off-road lights. Not only do they make them look cool, but they add great benefit with the extra lighting that you can’t get with stock headlights or even street legal fog lights with the restrictions to make them street legal.
So since the inception, People purchased high powered off-road fog lights. Depending on if it were the 1st gen or the second gen, you could get 2 or 3 pairs in the pockets. Some would choose one pair of street legal fogs and the other 1 or 2 pairs of off-road fog pairs. After years of consumer requests and people adding fogs to their trucks after the fact, Ford finally said, ok. We will put a set of fogs in as an option with the Premium trim 801a.
Unfortunately, and this isn’t putting Ford down. They make a great truck in the Raptor, this is common place with all OEM manufacturers. Ford rather than going with high powered LED lights like consumers buy and add to their Raptors, they instead chose to go the low power cheap route. Again, this isn’t uncommon. For production, whether it be a supplier for the Supercharger for a GT500, or a tire company. They look at overall cost and providing the service as cheap as possible. So while they chose Rigid lights to install, which are great. They chose the small 1/2 size SRM models. So you get one off-road and one street legal model but 1/2 the size and power that people are used to. That size is generally used in the rear of a truck for backup lights, not forward ones. The thing is, most people want a lot more power than the small 1/2 size models they chose. Now, would the price be higher if they had chosen the full size models? Of course, but not by a lot. So it’s all in what you want. Like anything, the small SRM’s serve a purpose, and for many, they will suffice, but for many others, they will want the power they are used to. Including the cool effects of the amber backlit Radiance or 360 series models. We will be able to bring those back as an option with our kits.
hope this helps.
