Has anyone done a review on these yet? How do the perform and any issues with install/reliability?
I purchased a Wavetrac differential a couple of months and 2000 miles ago. I had wanted to instal it myself but had a very trusted friend instal it due to my schedule. Anyway it being winter in Alaska i was very anxious to get it in and not have it sitting around my garage waiting for me to do it.
Driving impressions: I had mine set up as tight as it will go by installing it with factory gear lube in the front end. i can say that i am very impressed with the Wavetrac, it is as quiet as stock and really hooks up. The factory tires are very disappointing in winter conditions so you get a fair amount of slippage anyway. I have put the the left side wheels on glare ice and the right on dry pavement and now the truck will climb right up. The only draw back and it is minor but cannot be ignored is the increased input in steering. No longer can you nonchalantly hold on to the wheel while accelerating, it will be pulled out of your hand and your will be in the ditch. When accelerating the front tires are both grabbing for traction and with the wavetrac it will hook up and pull the wheel from your hands, like i said, not a big deal but you need to be aware of it or you could end up head on with another car or in the ditch (Alaska roads are mostly two lanes).
The only down side with this mod is the price. I paid about a grand for the wavetrac and another grand to have it installed. I have decided i am keeping the truck for the long term so not its not that big of a deal but 2k is a lot of money for something you cant see.
