On Sunday I was flipping through pages of the Sunday paper.. Not much really to speak of in the paper these days anyway and I almost never look. Today was a little different and one page caught my eye.. "Fly in a World war 2 B17 bomber".. I like to fly and have never found any place I could actually fly vintage aircraft. I can find places that let you look at them but not fly them. So I called the number quickly to setup a time and day for this to me is a once in a lifetime chance. Everything is setup for Thursday and were there about 2 hours ahead of time.. Here are some pictures of the event.. More pictures of the flight to follow this... I did not fly the B17 I was in it I did get some great shots from the cockpit, bombardier, waste gun etc... .. You get to fly the P51..

Is that the Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom tour? I did that several years ago in Livermore, CA with my Dad when he was out to visit and it was a great experience.

If you actually got to put the flight in your logbook, then I gotta say I'm pretty jealous right now! Every year or so we get a B-17 that comes through the area offering rides and I haven't found one yet that would actually let me behind the controls. Good for you!!!

Went for a flight in the B17 last year when they came thru Reno.
Gave a me such an appreciation for all of our WW2 vets who flew in those noisy uncomfortable planes. I cannot imagine what it was like to fly in sub zero temps with people shooting all manner of stuff at you.
Made me appreciate my Uncle Frank (bombardier) and my wife's uncle Art (pilot) who both spent time in B-17's. I am sorry I wasn't able to express my gratitude to both of those fine men, as they had both passed before I got to take my ride.
If you get a chance, take a ride, it's worthwhile.
