GEN 2 My prediction on the 5.2

I can tell you I dont like the v6 its overworked and under powered. Wont own another Raptor without a v8.. Brute force is always superior to pushing an anemic motor to its limits.

I to used to be a V8 only kind of guy. I loved everything about them. I came out of a Hemi Dodge and for the most part have had good things to say about it. I still also have a 10 second street Camaro. So I know what straight line speed is about. Trucks can be quick, but frankly never fast. Not a street legal vehicle.

With that said I grew interest in the Raptor over recent years. It had great looks, a combination of quick and very capable. I said this seems like a good daily driver. Nice power and no major gas pig. Again I’m used to spending money on fuel.

Sure at first I was like a V6? But wait this is an intercooled twin turbo. Hmmmm something entirely new to play with. And as I followed the Ecoboost I realized it was a nice power plant and again good enough for daily driving fuel wise. Fuel wise? Am I getting older and wiser?

But what I’m saying is once you get past it’s not a grumpy sounding V8 and you look at it for how it performs in this truck, that’s enough said. I can trade cylinders for real world performance. 2 cylinders for 2 turbos.

I’m not one to argue Dodge hasn’t been a force and very good at producing big power vehicles in mass numbers. They also have delivered a lot of innovation over the years. Is there quality better? I can’t say it is. I would put them middle of the road at best.

Will be interesting to see what this TRX is about. But I’m still going to enjoy the Raptor. I still find looking at all the detail this truck has up close very pleasing. That’s a good thing!

MY19 prices are dropping because 2020s will hit the lots soon. Nothing more to it than that I'm afraid.

I swear the silliness of people waiting for the 5.2 is amazing...those people don't even care if the 5.2 is more powerful or as fuel efficient..they just want a V8....pure silliness.

If the 5.2 comes out and is indeed the 700hp powerhouse everyone wants then you should expect reworking the suspension and other things....I wouldn't want a first model year so the earliest it would be worth considering would be 2023 assuming it is release for 2021. By that time trading in a MY19 could begin to make sense.

If the TRX is released as a 2020 model you can expect a lot of growing pain...it is an untested platform and bugs are guaranteed....especially from Dodge. For my money I'd say buy the 19 Raptor today and plan to trade up in 4 years or thereabouts assuming something that much better has been proven out within that time frame.

With all the ecoboost we see and have experienced, I am happy to wait for any other power plant. My test drive of my 19 suckered me in, and it failed me pretty early on. I will buy another, but not until there is something else for power.

Wtf?! Hahaha it’s got so much low rpm TQ the thing barely feels like it’s trying w/ moderate throttle.

The irony is that it’s quite literally the heavy steel bodied gen 1 Raptor that is under powered- makes nearly 100 lb/ft TQ less & makes that peak TQ 1000 rpm higher than a gen2 - that’s if we’re talking a 6.2 gen 1, the 5.4? Hahahahah doesn’t a gen 2 do the 0-60 spring over a full second quicker too? Doesn’t sound like an overworked power plant to me
