I need advice on mud-flaps. I saw the thread on the Vortex mud-flaps by OUTCAST and I really like the way they look. I too like him always thought mud-flaps were for old men driving a Taurus.
That being said, in the winter here in Central New York they use a lot of salt on the roads and I mean a metric shit ton. Many vehicles show surface rust in only 4-5 years. I would really like to keep my truck from rotting out before then. I will probably only keep them on for the winter months (October-April) because I just want to keep the salt spray from covering the side and getting between the fender flares and the body. I see that as a potential for salt to sit against the body and cause rot.
I am rocking the Weathertech floor liners, coated the underside with Amsoil HD Metal protectant, sealed the plastic interior door sills with silicone, and sprayed the wheel wells with bed liner all in preparation. I am now looking for some mud-flaps to keep the amount of salt off the side of my truck. I also have a gravel driveway that is number 2 run-a-crush and every day I leave for work I have rocks that kick up the side of my truck that are putting small scratches and nicks in the paint.
The Farmers Almanac says we are in store for a record setting snow year so I want to get something before the snow starts to fly.
Anyone know of any other quality mud-flaps that could help me out or any other options other than running more narrow less aggressive tread tires?
