While this is true, the trap speed is very telling. While a better driver might be able to pull a better time, this is largely due to knowing how to launch the vehicle. Trap speed is largely unaffected by a good or not so good launch. The Raptor being a Raptor is laden with quite a bit more weight, not to mention drag and the power advantage it enjoys isn't enough to overcome the additional mass it carries.

Except that’s not really true based on real world data. There have been multiple guys posting slips from the track in the high 90s and I’ve heard at least one who inched his way up above 100 with a very good launch. I’d call that a pretty big difference. I guess the actual weather and track conditions are going to play a role in this, but why is Motortrend always so bad at this stuff? Reminds me of the time TFL wouldn’t use launch control to time the GTR because they said it wasn’t a real test. I get the Raptor isn’t a drag car and I could give two craps if a stock F150 lights it up all day, but it’s just baffling how bad these guys are at the automotive part of the automotive journalism.

So if they were bad at driving the raptor, does that mean they were also bad at driving the 5L? This test is a good apples to apples comparison so that you see each offering in the same test conditions.

It's highly disturbing but I'll credit you with making a valid point. Ughh. Can't believe I just typed that.

I found it interesting that the pictures of the Raptor tested aren't even an '18 model - Avalanche Gray is not available on an '18.

Simple as this. Take a Raptor... remove the eco. Throw in the "glorious 5.0 V8". Truck would be a much slower running down the 1/4 mile. But it would sound good haha.....

Probably, but given the superior torque curve and beefier tires of the Raptor I’d imagine the Raptor loses more by a bad launch than the other. But that’s a bit of a guess.

More to the point you don’t artificially be bad at doing two things and then claim it’s a good comparison of those things. If that were the case you would test both by sending a fifth grader out to do it and say “well it’s an even test”. There’s always going to be bias and variables, but you try to remove them best as possible. When I see a time that is so far below what it should be I think the tester loses credibility.

Another scenario.... take the 5.0 V8 f150. Throw a lift on it, throw 35's on it and put enough sacks of sand in the back to make it same weight as raptor. Be slow as shit but hey it would sound awesome!!

Even if true, it was the same drivers driving all the vehicles.
