Funny you say this..:.

Because I too am exploring the idea of an aftermarket intercooler.... mainly to ensure that summer weather doesn't rob me either.

I have to disagree with part of this statement. These trucks heatsoak so bad with a tune that an intercooler is an absolute must in order to achieve the full benefits of a tune. The stock intercooler simply can not handle the high boost from an aggressive tune. I am currently waiting on my full race intercooler so i can fully enjoy my tune. In one hard pull from 0-110+(85-90 degrees outside) the truck will reach IAT of 160-170 by 80mph, pull power to safeguard the motor and completely fall on its face.

Whipple's business used to be about making superchargers.. and now that everything is going forced induction from the factory, they came up with a package to still make a good amount of profit by including a CAI and intercooler w/ their tune.. but you, I, and they know none of that hardware is needed.. just a tune. No thanks

I didn't really shop around. I ordered mine directly from full race. Got intercooler, turbosmart BOV and throttle body spacer. FYI they start building it when you order so can take up to 4 weeks to receive it.

I strongly recommend the intercooler. I live in high temps and high humidity. Heatsoak is absolutely an issue for me. Even with the stock tune i see IAT as high as 150-155 on mine and my wifes 17 Raptors. The factory tune in those conditions even pulls power after a few hard acceleration runs up to around 100. Crank up the boost and the problem becomes very amplified very quickly. If im just cruising around town in sport mode goofing off then it never becomes an issue and the truck is a monster and eats through tires. Stretch her legs up over 100 a few times and it becomes very obvious the stock intercooler just cant keep up.

I would totally agree with you except this is a truck, not a McLaren or GTR (which I own both, and each are tuned - as every one of my cars are)

How many times will I go from 0-110 mph, then right after need full 100% power again?

never.

IATs will quickly drop with the factory intercooler. Now, I could see needing a bigger IC if you plan on tracking the truck, as you would be running full boost all the time. But in a Raptor, you literally will never have that issue. Even quick 0-60 runs won't bring the IATs up into the red zone. Who really cares about driving the truck WOT to 110? This is just crazy talk about a truck here. No one needs a larger IC unless on max boost and towing full time or racing it around a track, my mind is blown people are being told they should upgrade their IC on this thing... when most will never realize any performance gain whatsoever.... with tune or without.

Does a truck need to go over 100mph. Not really. The 0-110mph runs were during logging and used as an example of how quickly the stock intercooler will heatsoak. Simple as this.... Stock intercooler robs power under high boost heavy load(Towing, 1/4 mile runs, High speed highway pulls, intense offroading, etc) If you plan to run a tune and never have power loss issues then an aftermarket intercooler is a must. I chose to run an intercooler because I use my truck like it was designed to be used and heatsoaking is a huge problem FOR ME. If its a pavement princess with the occasional sprint to 60 then no need for one.

Now I have two questions...

What professional sports team do you own?

And.... why on God's earth would you need to tune a Mcclaren? Lol. Isn't it hand tuned by definition???

Whipple's system is $2K + Installation.. and they do not even modify or optimize the transmission. Plus, you need to ship the ECU to them to bench flash. I'd rather have the MPT Tunes to be honest..

Whipple's Tune absolutely optimizes the TCM section in the PCM

Mpt is a superior tune. Hands down... it makes more power and is more aggressive and despite the fear mongering in other threads.... I have no uncontrolled detonation and I towed a 6,000lb trailer last week for a friend on the performance tune at 93 octane. ::gasp!::

So why didn't you say you towed something last week in the other threads? Now all of a sudden you towed!

Just because you get a little more HP using 93 octane over a Tune that was dyno with 91, doesn't make it superior, not by a long shot.

I don't own a trailer and I don't own a single thing to tow.

But a friend of mine had some storm damage from run-off and asked if I could tow a small bobcat that he wanted to rent to help straighten out his yard. About 12 miles, level roads. I didn't feel like flashing the PCM and admittedly I was curious to see what would happen. Rental place said 6000lbs.

So I picked it up for him and he used it for the day and I returned it for him. I had not a single problem with detonating. Temps around 75.

Now I will concede that I drove gingerly and I'm not all that comfortable with driving a trailer so I took it pretty easy. I didn't even use that trailer assist backup stuff. I don't know how it works. I just backed the thing up old school. Lol

I don't mean to put Whipple down.... and I shouldn't. MPT did such an awesome job for me and have been so helpful that I feel very loyal and I think I received tremendous value for my money.

Oh, What to do??? I wasn't going to tune this thing at all...UNTIL...someone starts posting MPT is the ****-nit, or something to that affect. Decided to let others jump to the front of the line and either verify or deny Guy's claims. VERIFY it was. So then I take some more time just to make sure I want to bite the bullet and order tunes...thread turns into a Whipple vs MPT debate. $2K or $700 for tunes and N-Guage?????? Back to my original question, What to do??? Should have the MPT sometime next week. Guy, if this thing sucks, I WILL HOLD YOU PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE!!!!!

LOL

If any of you are on the fence about the MPT Tune I would be happy to give you a ride in the SF Bay Area or Sparks NV area
